New traffic roundabout coming to Ronkonkomas five corners.
If this is anything like they did in Patchogue on Waverly avenue, this intersection is screwed. I saw more accidents on waverly AFTER they put the traffic circle than before.

I think the roundabouts are much better and ease traffic congestion - we have 3 in riverhead - might not be such a bad thing

If people know how to drive around them they are. I literally watched two accidents infront of me because people, stop when theybshould go, yeild when they shoukd stop. That intersection is way to busy for this crap.

I serioulsy can't imagine how this will work with all the rush hour traffic that goes through that are. Not to mention all the school buses that go through that intersection for the schools right there.
I didn't even hear they were considering doing this.
I don't like this idea at all.

ITA nobody knows how to use them! I once saw a car driving the OPPOSITE direction through a traffic circle because they thought it was a 2 way ! All other traffic stopped until they left the circle

I think the new one they put in on Rt 58 is a disaster! Two lanes to go straight and people don't watch what they are doing. That one makes me so nervous

Traffic circles are great once people know how to use them. I lived in MA for years and they are everywhere. It keeps traffic moving. The problem here is that no one knows how to jump in. You have to keep it moving.

I agree with the person who posted on Sachem.patch.com that we should all get to see diagrams. Does anyone know if they were shown at the town board meeting? Also, I am always a bit skeptical when a town board approves something unanimously. It's just this, um "thing" I have about some construction companies being in politicians' pockets or vice versa. (Let the flames begin.)

BUT... the one on Rt 58 is the ONLY place I've ever seen designated as a "Black Dot Traffic Area". I didn't even know that existed until I saw the sign there years ago. It's so bad, it's actually labeled as an accident-prone location....

Yeah I hate them! The one by me in patchogue is so stupid..No one knows how to do them. People stop when they shouldnt..while others who are supposed to yield dont..its crazy!! The one in Riverhead isnt so bad..I think that one was done properly. I feel 5 corners is just too busy for one there..Sachem school traffic during the morning and evening will be a mess!!

I used to live in the apts rmight by the patch one. I heard accidents happen. This one on Ronk, is going tombe a disaster. It will take forever to get through it. I get stuck at that light sometimes four times trying to get to 25.

Traffic circles are so much better than 2-way or *gasp* 4-way stop signs. The problem is that most people just don't know how to use them correctly, mostly because we really don't have many of them around here.
I love them. And think about it, no red-light cameras at a roundabout!

ditto.. i grew up in MA and they were pretty common there. The only one i see around here is down at Jones Beach and its always a nightmare, even though they painted very clear lines with directions on what to do..
I feel like the more they have.. the better people will get at using them and eventually traffic patterns will be better
Might be tough at first, but it would really help!
(i have no knowledge of the intersection in the OP though..)
