New With Questions

Hi everyone,

I just had a few questions and was hoping that some of you wonderful women could help out!

DH and I are in our 6 month of TTC. I went to my ob-gyn today for my annual exam and told her that we have been using OPKs but have had no luck. I also told her that I was concerned that I had a short luteal phase - I have 25-26 day cycles and I O's on day 14 or 15.

While I was expecting her to tell me that I should wait a few more cycles, she said that she thought I should get the ball rolling on fertility testing. I am actually happy that she is taking such an aggressive approach.

This is what she is proposing I start with:
1. CD 3 bloodwork
2. Bloodwork after I ovulate to check my progesterone levels
3. Sonogram - I am not sure what to check!
4. SA for DH

Does this sounds like a good plan to start? Is there anything else I should be doing?

Also, my ob-gyn said she can do the above testing in their office (except for the SA), and that she didn't think I needed to see a RE yet. Does that make sense?

Lastly, she told me to check my insurance and DH's insurance for infertility coverage to see which has the better one. I found out that my insurance covers everything except for IVFs. I am still waiting to find out about DH's. How much are IVFs?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks so much in advance Chat Icon

Re: New With Questions

It seems like your doctor is on top of things! I think you will be fine with your regular ob/gyn unlesss you find there is a problem and/or she wants to put you on meds (i.e. clomid). Then it would be time to move to an RE.

All of the testing you described sounds good as a first step. The only additional thing I did was a HSG at your stage of the game but it was optional. An internal sonogram should also be done to check your ovaries and uterus.

ITA !....Just be careful if it comes to meds (then an RE is a must IMO)..Good Luck !Chat Icon

Ditto - I had everything done that you list, and an HSG, during the first month or so with my RE so it looks like your ob/gyn is covering most of your bases. If something turns up, then it might be time to move on to a specialist Chat Icon

Re: New With Questions

Thanks for everyone's responses! My ob-gyn also mentioned doing a HSG, but I think she wanted to do it after the blood tests.

Unfortunately, I just realized that I am going to be away on vacation and out of the country for CD3, so I will likely have to wait until the following month (unless I get PG). However, I can still send DH to take care of his test!
