New Yankees first baseman?
Co-worker heard this on the radio this morning:
Nomar approached to play (and get this, NOT centerfield), but first base!

Re: New Yankees first baseman?
Screw Nomar.
He claims he will play any position for any team that signs him. Does this mean he will be GOOD at it?
Did the Yanks forget about that wonderful Womack in the outfield experiment and how that turned out?
If the Yanks do this... that means Giambi will be the DH. This also means the Yanks will have to find a center fielder that can actually field (meaning Bernie if signed... will never be able to DH).
The yanks should have just re-signed Martinez. Nomar would be a total waste at 1st base.

If Nomar signs then Giambi will be the DH and then Bernie is out. I think it's a dumb move and not fair to Bernie. Also Nomar has some many leg/groin issues can you see him stretching for a ball

I agree. Although it would be kind of funny to see Jeter, A-Rod and Nomar all on the same infield.
I don't see what adding Nomar does. Why not just try Bernie at first base then? He's got the skills to still play-just not the speed or arm strength. And you really don't need speed or an arm for first.

Take it from a Met fan that watched Piazza fail miserably at 1st base.
The position isn't as easy as it looks, and really should not be a place to experiment.
