"New York State Benefit Card"

I saw a small grocery store advertising that they now take "new york state benefit cards."

Are they talking about food stamps? Do stores usually advertise that? I just thought it was odd.

Food stamps no longer come in a coupon form. Its a card (usually your medicaid card) that works like a debit card. I guess not all the stores were up on the technology, hence why they would advertise now.
