New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
Has anyone done this? We're looking to do a cruise in April or May since we're doing our "big" trip in August. So we figure maybe taking a cruise out of NY will seem like less traveling because there's no flight.
Does anyone have recommendations or comments? Thanks!

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
We took Royal Carribean out of NJ to Bermuda (not the Bahamas, I know) in May 2005 and would highly recommend it There was a day and a half at sea to get to Bermuda. One of our friends was seasick on the way down, but no one else was
The food was great and since Bermuda wasn't cheap, we opted to only eat lunch out There was so much to do - snorkling, kayaking, horseshoe bay beach, dolphin swim, parasailing, a little sight seeing, golf (but its $$) - getting around is very cheap.

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
I went on a Norwegian cruise last year out of NY to the Bahamas - I thought it was great. I don't love flying so I liked being able to avoid it & just leave out of NY.
We did go in June though, so we had warm weather from the time we left NY, which was really nice. I can't really say how it would be going in April or May. You'll still have the inside of the ship to enjoy if there's cool weather though...
Good luck & FM me if you have any questions...

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
I went on the Carnival Miracle in 2004 from NY to the Bahamas and it was such a good time. The ship is really big and nice. We stopped in Floriday for a day and two ports in the Bahamas but one port was from like 7-11AM stop. It is two days at sea both ways, but we loved hanging out on the ship the whole time.
In the Bahamas we went shopping and they had a bunch of things you could do if you wanted to, but we mainly went shopping and looked around.

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
We are going in March on a crusie to the Eastern Carribean. It's Holland America on their brand new boat and it's an 11 day cruise. It has 6 ports of call (2 of them are only half days) and a total of 4 days at sea. We got a great price on it and it's our "big trip" before kids too

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
Thanks for the responses ladies! I was worried about too many days at sea but you all seemed to have fun Unfortunately though when trying to figure out how much time DH will have off, we won't be able to fit this in before our trip to europe But I'll definitely keep it in mind for next year!

They LOVED every minute of it!!! They did not get to go to the first port (Curaco?) b/c of rough seas. That was supposed to be a half day port I think. They loved the boat, the food, the entertainment. My dad won a slot tournament on the way up, and on the way back, while at sea. They all had Balcony Rooms and LOVED it! Did I mention, They loved it?
You will have a great time!! Be prepared to party, party party!! They went to the beach at st. martin, st. thomas and barbados. THey said it was very chilly heading out of NY...but it was so awesome to see the Statue of Liberty, etc.
Have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New York to Bahamas (Cruises)
We went on The Crown Princess last summer and loved it. It left out of the new terminal in Brooklyn.
