Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
How long did your baby wear newborn size, if at all? Is 3-6 month better to get and have on hand?

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
It honestly depends.....my 6 week old is still in newborn and things are still big on him. He's a peanut though. He was 7lbs 1oz when he was born, dropped to 6lbs 5 oz then went back up at his one month to 8lbs 6 oz which is still newborn clothing. I found myself not having enough newborn b/c I thought the same as you, however I made due with what I have b/c I don't think it's worth having a TON. I do put him in 0-3 months things, even if he is drowning in them a little.......

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
Lily was in newborn until she was 3 months old, so we needed a lot! Between the diaper messes, and the spit up, she was changing her outfit several times a day! I would suggest some newborn, some 0-3 and some 3-6 at the start. Once the baby is here, you can see sizewise, what you need more of.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
I didn't have enough NB stuff and DD was 7 lbs. 12 oz. I also don't have a washer and dryer and she was born on Christmas, so that was a huge factor as well. I found that the biggest waste of clothes was the 3-6 month age range. 0-3 and 6-12 lasted forever.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
DS was 6 lbs, 3 oz when he was born, so we ran out and bought a ton of NB clothes. By 3 weeks, he needed 0-3 month clothes. He is up to 9 lbs, 5 oz at 4.5 weeks old! So you really never know.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
It really depends on who makes the clothes. DS was 8 lbs 6 oz and 20 inches at birth. He came home in a newborn size out fit made by Mini Wear from BRU. He is now 9 weeks old and weighs 12 lbs 2 oz and is 22 1/2 inches long and it still fits. Carter's outfits seem to run small to me. He is in mostly 6 month clothing from them. Three month size is snug on him. Also a lot of stuff shrinks in the wash. I just gave a friend of mine a bunch of newborn and 3 month size clothes for her son who was born in late November...

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
DS was 7lb 13oz when he was born and was in NB. Now at 3 weeks, he is 9lb 10 oz and the newborn stuff is too tight on him. He is wearing mostly 0-3 months even though a lot of it is still big on him.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
DD was 6lbs 7oz, dropped to 5lbs 13oz and wore NB till about 6 - 7 weeks. We actually had to go buy a bunch of things. She is 14 weeks and is still in 0 - 3 months or 3 month clothes with room to grow, but she is only a little over 11lbs.
All depends on if your DC spits up, how often you will do laundry, and of course how big they are. Keep the tags on things and have someone wash them after the baby is born.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
My mother INSISTED that we did not need a lot of newborn stuff and I guess everyone thought the same thing because DS had hardly no newborn stuff. He also was a small baby (5lbs 2 oz when we took him home and the newborn stuff was swimming on him. At 10 weeks he is still in newborn although I expect he will be out of it shortly and is also wearing 0-3. I am a clothes horse and buy him a new outfit nearly everytime I go out but I do have to say on some days we can go through 3-4 outfit changes (and we do not have a washer/dryer in our coop).

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
I agree with everyone, my boys are 5 weeks tomorrow and are still in NB...however, the Carters pjs/footy things are starting to get too small in the length. Mine were peanuts when they came home and I needed to get more NB stuff and some preemie stuff for the little one (he was 4lbs 8oz when we brought him home but was out of preemie at 3 weeks). Keep the tags on though just in case.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
DS wore newborn for about 6 weeks. He was 7 lbs at birth. I definitely suggest some newborn, and some 0-3 and 3 month clothing. In my experience, people give you bigger sizes not the sizes for immediate use.

I have so much stuff didn't wear!
DS also wore them for less than a week. It was length more than weight--he was 22.5" at birth, and now at exactly 6 months is in 18 months clothes (30 inches now).
I'd get more 0-3 and 3-6 than NB.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
I didn't have enough newborn stuff at all. It depends on how big your DC is when they are born. DD was 7lbs 2oz and she was in NB clothing for 3 months. I would say get a few things and then once the baby is bornn, you or someone else can always go out and get more. My mom and MIL both took care of getting me a TON of NB stuff once DD was born.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
it does vary from kid to kid.
DS was 8lbs10oz. He wore newborn size for about 2-3 weeks, then it was 0-3mos generally.
I personally wouldn't get a lot of newborn stuff. We only wore it because we had it. He fit fine into 0-3mos coming home as well.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
DS wore newborn for 2 weeks. Then went straight to 0-3, wore that for a month and then was 3-6 until he was 4 months. wore 6-9 until 8 months then went to 12 months until now (11 months) He's now between 12 and 18 months depending on the brand.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
I used a lot. DD is 8 weeks and still in newborn. She weighed 6.13 at birth and is now 9.15 and still in newborn. It all depends on the baby. I wouldn't get a lot of newborn just in case your baby is bigger. If the baby is a peanut then people always give clothes as gifts when the baby is born so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Re: Newborn Clothing - how much is needed?
It really does depend. I think my DS was in newborn clothes until he was about 6-7 weeks. Then we moved to 3 months, I mostly have Carter's clothing, I love it! He's basically outgrown the sleep n plays with feet but the regular pants still fit. He's 12 weeks now and is about to move into the 3-6 month clothes. Maybe in 2 weeks. He was born early and weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. He was 11 lbs 2 weeks ago and 22 3/4 inches.
