Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
Does anyone let their newborn sleep in carseat/swing/bouncee seat, etc. because they sleep better or longer in it than their bassinet or crib?
Whenever we go out and come home at night, I leave my 9 week old son in the carseat and bring him to the bedroom instead of taking him out and putting him in his bassinet. The first couple of times I figured I'd leave him in it until he woke up to eat which I though would be in an hour or so. He sleeps through the night every time I leave him in there! It's only been a handful of times, I could have just gotten lucky on these few occasions.
My question is, is it bad to let him sleep somewhere other than his bassinet or crib? I don't want him to not be able to sleep in his crib. He's still in the bassinet in my room, I haven't moved him to his crib yet.
Any advice would be appreicated!
Thanks!

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
I did this once and then asked my Dr. She said not to do it on a regular basis b/c it ca be difficult for the baby to adjust to sleeping in the crib/bassinet or whatever flat mattress surface he is supposed to sleep on.

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
I am guilty If I am really tired and Taylor is sleeping in bouncy seat, I leave her in it so I know I will get more sleep myself. I try not to do it often, but sometimes I do

DS naps in his swing. But not for long periods of time. He sleeps better in his pnp or bassinett, although it is more of a struggle to get him IN there.
Have you tried putting something under the mattress so he isn't so flat?

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
My DD definitely slept better in the bouncy seat/swing/car seat at that age, and I usually let her nap in there. I also put her to bed in her car seat a few times when she was congested so her head would be elvated. I think lots of people do it, and babies definitely feel more comfortable b/c their more closed in/secure.
However, I did see a news report a while ago saying it wasn't safe to have an infant sleep in their car seat for too long, they say the angle they are at could block their breathing. I did a search on here and found someone posted the article back in Dec. Here's the link. So it's probably not something you want to do all the time. Or at least try to lean the car seat back to at least a 45 degree angle like it is in the car.

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
no i used to do this w/my 1st son all the time in the beginning- when he was ready to go to sleep for the night I would put him in his carseat-in my bedroom, he had acid reflux so he slept better sitting up.

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
Yes I did, and I've also used the swing as a sleep aid.
I did whatever worked to help me get some much needed sleep!

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
DD had acid reflux and slept in her swing until she was 4 1/2 months old. She was fine in her crib after a couple of nights of CIO. She is a great sleeper.

Re: Newborn Sleeps Better in Car Seat
Ds was a really bad sleeper so I always let him nap in his swing, but I wanted him to sleep at night in his bassinet. But I say whatever works, works.
