newborns and your bed...

SO DS hates his bassinet and will only sleep for about an hour in his crib..He does love his bouncy and our arms.....

The other night he was crying and was due for a bottle so I placed him on our bed with DH while I went to get his bottle...by the time I got back he was sound alseep snoringChat Icon

Since I was exhausted...I kept him there and he slept 4 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didnt get much sleep since I was constantly making sure he was safe.

Have any of you girls allowed your baby to sleep in the bed at such a young age?

ETA: def not going to make him sleeping in the bed with us become a habit...but I must admit I loved having him so close to me..he loves to be cuddled...

I cant say I ever had my son took well to his bassinet though. I think eh kid is different and as long as there safe and you dont make it a habit then you do what you have to.

Re: newborns and your bed...

Bryan slept in our bed from 8 weeks to 1 year. Dh and I are very light sleepers so we would always wake up and check on the baby throughout the night. The baby slept very well with us. We used a sleep positioner ( which I know is frowned upon now) to keep him from rolling over in the bed. There is also a thing called the snuggle nest that you can put inbtween you two to make it more safe. We also bought a co sleeper ( ds hated the bassinet, I sold mine on ebay.) which he would use during the daytime for naps and for the beggining of the night. He prefered the actual bed though.

Sometimes in the morning after DH gets up but I'm not quite ready to get out of bed I position DD in the boppy in the bed with me just to get a few more winks of sleep. She loves it and will actually fall asleep again.

Re: newborns and your bed...

Dom slept with us Ro...either that or the bouncy right next to our bed. That was the only way he would sleep. He slept in his crib at about 6+Mos, once he was sleeping through the night.

I do have to add that he still sleeps with me sometimes and just really started to love his own bed.

My daughter HATED her bassinet and the only way we could get her to sleep when she got home from the hospital was to sleep in our bed with us!!

DD's been sleeping with us since birth. It's the only way I can get "some" sleep. We tried her in the cradle she screamed terribly. Anytime we tried her crib she didn't last even an hour before she is hysterical. It is nice having her with us as I know it won't last forever and so easy to nurse. I say whatever works Chat Icon

We did it for quite a few months - and I miss it, but it was nice getting the bed back!

Re: newborns and your bed...

dd also hated the bassinet.

We had her sleeping with us and it worked well because she was actually sleeping. This was when our bedroom was in the living room due to construction.

Now we are both in our bedrooms and we put her in the crib. She sleeps so much better in the crib. I think the bassinet might have been uncomfortable.
