I just dont trust them. They have only tested this drug for not even 2 months. We were mandated to take the the flu shot but I am willing to risk the H1N1 not getting it because they dont know the side effects truely yet. Its very scary. Thats really sad 28 ladies died

Ok lets think about this.... yes 28 women died and that is SO SAD and terribly tragic. But think of the MILLIONS of pregnant women in America right now. Can you even conceive of the odds? Personally with pregnancy, there are WAY more things i would be worried about before this virus.

Try not to freak out too much. The main stream media likes to cause panic and fear in the general public, as a hobby. I would take anything seen on the "news" with a grain of salt.

I totally agree with this.
The vaccine just hasn't been out long enough, in my opinion.

Re: News- H1N1 has killed 28 pregnant women in the US!
you guys also need to understand that they are conveniently not publishing the numbers of pregnant woman that die from the REGULAR flu every year. and that's despite the fact that a tested, proven (for the most part) flu vaccine is available.
i would not worry just yet. take the regular precautions you normally would to avoid getting sick (using tissues, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, washing your hands often) and if you are really worried, discuss the H1N1 vaccine with your OB.

You are 100% correct about this. There is a risk with ANY vaccine, medication excetra. They don't just push stuff willy nilly. This is a well thought out decision. I will be taking the H1N1 since it DOES target a specific strain of the flu that we KNOW is here. The regular flu vaccines were made 3 yrs ago and may or may not be the flu strain we have. That has always been my issue. There are hundreds/thousands of flu starins and they "pick" 1, that may or may not be the right strain, to vaccinate us from a year. I just don't like those odds.
My OB is pushing HARD for all pregnant women to get it, but mostly her ladies in the 1st tri or those TTC since the effects are unknown of how the virus effects the fetus.

Oh I gottcha... so do you think they are pushing pregnant women in their 1st tri or TTC so that we can basically be like the guinea pigs?? Also, so that they can collect data? What do you think?

Well, they recently came out with a report saying that pregnant women should NOT get the H1N1 nasal mist!!!
A few weeks ago, this was probably unknown! I am just wondering what each few weeks will tell us about the vaccine....
There are too many unknown variables right now.

Re: News- H1N1 has killed 28 pregnant women in the US!
The numbers are clear & have been published by the CDC:
7% of the people who DIED of H1N1 were pregnant. One THIRD of people who were pregnant & hospitalized w. H1N1 died. That's a big number. Especially during the summer.
The nasal spray formulation is attenuated virus. Not recommended (and never was) for anyone with immune disorders or pregnancy.
It's possible that the H1N1 will blow over & not become an epidemic....but I think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
It is mandatory for hospital personnel to get H1N1. There are TENTS going up to care for the sick in places.
Other countries and some of our US doctors are suggesting to WAIT if you are TTC.
I keep asking WHEN will the shot come in.

Re: News- H1N1 has killed 28 pregnant women in the US!
I have to say I am so tired of hearing about H1N1...it got so hyped up the beginning of the year, and like headoverheels said, they aren't publishing the numbers for regular flu. The beginning of this year, the chatting heads had an expert on who said that everyone is going so crazy over H1N1, yet the number of people getting sick, let alone dying, are so much lower than they are for the regular flu, so everyone needs to calm down. They then went to commercial break and I never saw that expert on anything else.
