News on Taylor-frustrated a little
So I spoke to the NICU doc today. Taylor is doing greeat. Gaining weight. 4lbs 5 oz. They lowered the temp on her isolette so she can start regulating temp. BUT she has a slow sucking reflex. She only takes 20ccs per feeding-she has to take 35ccs. That is the only thing stopping us from taking her home. Hoping for 36 weeks but I dont know how this whole sucking reflex works grrr She is 34 weeks 2 dys today

Don't get discouraged. She will all of a sudden get it. I remember not being able to get ds to eat and having to bring him to the nurses so they could finish the feeding, and then going back 3 hours later for the next feeding and he sucked his whole bottle down in 5 minutes. My husband and I could not believe our eyes we were so proud. She will get don't worry

She is getting there. 20 cc's is great...she's more than 1/2 way there. Trying tickling her feet or unwrapping her a little to get her to wake up while feeding. Good luck!

Don't get discouraged, this happened to my twin nephews, one of them had the same problem. Then, all of a sudden, he got it and hasn't stopped eating since! He's a year old and over 25 lb.

Both my children were born small. I just have small babies. That said, they both are quite unique. DD had terrible issues for the first 2-3 weeks trying to eat. She couldn't figure out sucking and she couldn't stay awake long enough to eat what she should've...she was gaining weight though so I ddn't worry. meanwhile, DS is a pig who hasn't had a problem at all with eating. Don't worry over this...the biggest hurdle of her journey is over. Congrats again.
