Re: Next Food Network Star
I watched it.
I was disappointed in the winner.
I think the runner up had a more interesting platform.
the winner's show is done and being redone in 7 different ways on the network already.
by choice, I won't be watching the winner's show.
I lament that I won't be watching the runner up's show.
I hope I was able to give my opinion without spoiling it.

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
I was happy for the winner and I will watch that show.
I think the runner up didn't have longevity with the concept. But I think both would have done an excellent job.
That was hard!

yes, but the winner was a bit more personable for tv viewers i think. I really liked both of them, and would've enjoyed seeing the 2nd place person just as well. I'm wondering if we'll see them anyway since the judges really liked them a lot as well.

I liked them both but the winner I thought was more marketable.
I think we'll see them both around.

I was disappointed with the winner, but I will probably watch the show at least once. I really liked the runner up and how they approached things, but knowing the Food Network, the runner up may end up with their own show.

I was happy for the winner.
I felt the runner up was not genuine. I just didn't believe what they were saying, but that's just me.

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
I'm actually happy that Melissa won.
While I liked the concept for Jeffrey's show... I think that it's not really the best idea. I know personally, when I see a recipe that has some crazy ingredient, I usually skip over it because I can't find it at the supermarket or Whole Foods or wherever. It just seems like his dishes wouldn't appeal to as many people as Melissa's would.
I saw on the Food Network website that Melissa's new show is called "Ten Dollar Dinners" - and I think that's a great concept for right now in this economy!

ITA! I think the winner was way more genuine and "real". People could completely relate to her! She definitely deserved to win!

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
First of all, that ingredient that Jeffrey used is great and all, but what does it taste like? He didn't give any indication of the flavor. I just didn't see how that would translate going forward. I actually think Alton pigeon holed him a bit with that. I think Jeffrey didn't have a really thought out concept and was struggling and intimidated when meeting with Alton.
I would be too!

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
I liked the idea of Jeffery's show, I just wasn't a fan of Jeffery. He just seemed so sure that he was going to beat Melissa. I was kind of rooting for the underdog in the competition. I did feel like Melissa had more techniques to teach and I did like that.
I will probably check out her show a couple times.

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
see, this is why Melissa won.
clearly I am in the minority
her show will bore me.
there is already 5 Ingredient Fix, 30 minute Meals...and the most agregious of them all...Semi Homemade with the Stepford Wife.
I don't think I could relate to Melissa's show at all.
I like Alton, I like Giada, and I like Tyler. also Paula Deen and Ina Garten.
I cannot stand Rachel Ray, the aforementioned Stepford wife, and most of the other shows.
I'll watch Ellie Krieger in the morning..she is "OK" I don't really care for the 5 fix girl either.
oh well, that's why I also watch the food shows on the travel channel. they are more my speed.

Re: Next Food Network Star-Possible spoilers
Jess totally agree about Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee..blech.
I see a lot of potential for Melissa. I really think Jeffrey could have picked a different concept. Alton did him no favors.

again... I agree.
I probably won't be watching her show. Too many others I like now, won't be adding that one to the repetoire.

Agree with this. You're introducing a foreign ingredient. Just don't give the name - give us an idea what it tastes like - spicy, sweet, salty? No idea! Give us an idea where you can purchase it. I'm not going to look to make your recipe if I have no idea where to get your ingredient or it's very difficult to find.
I thought Melissa was a lot more marketable, "user friendly" and genuine. Also glad because she was the underdog and I felt quite a few, including Jeffrey, looked down their noses at her because she did not have formal training.

Totally agree... I think if it was a show where they showed him in the country, talking about the ingredient, etc., then cooking it and yes, telling us where to buy! ) it would be a lot better.
I really like Melissa's ideas and tips. I love how EASY she made her 4 step chicken... it even makes me think I can make it... how easy to just change the ingredients.

I'd hope if it was a real show they would do this. I don't think they would bother to do this for the 'demo' video show that they taped. They would have needed more content for a full half hour show than what they did play.
I wouldn't be surprised if this guy showed up somewhere. That guy Adam (last year's LOSER) shows up more on Food Network than last year's WINNER!

That is because Adam should have won
I do like Jeffrey and hope he sticks around. Give him this show too.. then everyone would be happy!
