Re: Nice campsites?
I love ricket's glen in PA. There is a great waterfall hike, a lake, and it is really close to Knoebells which is small family oriented Pa Dutch amusement park.
How about Maine, Acadia National Park. It was by the far the most beautiful camping ever.
I would never go to the state one in nj again, by the delaware water gap. Worthington State forest campground. I never had so many bears, dear etc near my campsite in my life. And the bathrooms are outhouses, except for the one main one.
I don't know anywhere in RI though. But I tend to look for state campgrounds over private ones. They are usually cleaner and I would prefer to go to one that doesn't allow RV's or keeps them separate.
There are also some great places by Lake Placid, NY. There is excellent hiking there in the High Peaks area. And the Olympic sites are great in the summer.

Assategue (sp) National Park in Northern Maryland. Its really pretty. It is beach camping - so right on the sand and there are wild horses in the park (although not where the campsites are). Really nice!!
