Nice Halloween stories
There are so many terrible stories out there- maybe we can share some nice ones.
My dad passed away a few days before Halloween. In the Jewish tradition, we sat in mourning at my mother's house for 7 days- one of those days being Halloween. My mom put up a sign- "PLease no trick or treaters. Family in mounring". One kid wrote on the sign- "we are so sorry for your family- and that's no trick."
It was so touching- especially during such a hard time. It just reminded us that there are good kids out there. I still get all misty eyed when I think of it (OK it could be the horemones... but still)
Any other nice stories?

Re: Nice Halloween stories
from yesterday...
one of our neighbors who is quite elderly...(i think she's like 88 years old).....well, we didn't want to bother her trick or treating, b/c she has a hard time getting around..she's a little frail... at about 7:30 last night, she sent her daughter over with some raisinets and pepperidge farm goldfish for the girls,....she said that she was sorry she missed us. (apparently she was out with her daughter)
i just thought it was very thoughtful of her to have thought of my girls.

That's so sweet, and I kind of feel stupid for posting this because it's more cute than nice.. but it cured my 3 year old nephew of his fear of monsters so I thought I would share... oh, this happened last night..
my nephew is scared of monsters... so my brother came up with this idea to give him a can of air freshener and put a label on it that says "Monster Spray" so Erich (my nephew) can walk around with this spray and whenever he gets scared about monsters he sprays. he associates the smell of the spray with no monsters ya know? so anyway.. he brings the spray everywhere.... including my house last night... so we go out trick or treating but he leaves the spray at home. Now there is this house around the corner from me that always decorates... i mean full out goblins and ghosts on the lawn, a scare crow hanging from the tree.. you name it they have it.. so Erich see's it and looks at it funny. so I go, "it's not real sweetie.." he goes, "aunt brooke.. touch it!" he likes when people touch things to verify it's not real.. so I go over, touch the shoulder and the head rolls off. I jumped about 20 feet and screamed bloody murder.. he's sitting there cracking up. so we go home and he goes to my mom, "maama.. where's my monster spray?" she goes, "inside... why you hear one?" he goes, "no, i don't need it anymore.. aunt brooke showed me if you touch them their heads just fall off."

Re: Nice Halloween stories
Kind of a cute story that I will always remember.... My dad used to always give an extremely generous amount to any trick or treaters who came to our door. One time a group of boys came and one of them said, "Thanks so much mister, you gave us soooo much more than all the other people have given us already. To which my dad answered, "Thats because I used to own a candy factory (total lie). The boys were like "Wow" in unison with priceless looks on their faces just imagining that notion. It was very cute.

Re: Nice Halloween stories
Not so touching, but cute...
Last night I had just one group of Trick or Treaters (it's not really big in the UK) - there were about 6-7 kids. The last kid to come to the door was really cute though. He was the smallest of the group and he had on a green latex mask with fangs. I said 'ooooh, you're scary' and he said "Yep! That's what I am! Scary!" Like that was his actual costume - "Scary" :)

Re: Nice Halloween stories
No special stories but yours were all cute and/or touching.
I have to say, all the kids said "Thank you" and "Happy Halloween" so it was a nice night for me. My dog would greet all the trick-or-treaters but wouldn't keep his horns on (DevilDog).....

Re: Nice Halloween stories
A lady I work with her MIL was incredably ill and it was very touch and go. Her and her husband both love Halloween and even though her MIL was in great pain prayed they wouldnt have to spend Halloween mourning.
Her MIL died early this morning. My co-worker said to me when I told her how sorry I was for her loss "She knew how much we love Halloween and waited for halloween to be over"
