The layout on the 1st floor looks similar to my house.
But they decided to only put cabinets on one side of the wall... where in my house I have cabinets on both sides.
Here is what my kitchen (currently) looks like
Don't mind the crappy cabinets... we are gutting the entire kitchen out. 
They probably did this so they had room to put their dining table. As much as you need space to eat... the lack of cabinets and countertops on this house just isn't practical.
