night sweats?

In the middle of the night I woke up twice wet with sweat. I was more cold than hot so I would say it was a cold sweat. I wasn't drenched but it was there. This happened to me after I had a baby and when I stopped BF but that was almost a year ago. I just got AF yesterday (my 6th or 7th AF since having DS 16.5 mos ago) so I am wondering if it could be hormonol? Anyone ever experience this?

Re: night sweats?

Sometimes when I would get AF, I would get the cold sweats. It could be from the fluctuation in hormones.

Re: night sweats?

it's very coincidental that you posted this today. For over a year after giving birth to DS I'd have horrible night sweats. I always woke up drenched at least once a night.

Then for the last two months it subsided. And last night it happened again twice.

I think it is very much related to my hormones. After the baby for sure. And then now because I'm dealing with after effects from the depo shot that I had about 10 months ago that still seems to be effecting me.

I know you said you just got AF so it definately could be hormonal. Are you on any type of hormone or birth control or any other meds for that matter?

Wow you had this for over a year after giving birth to DS? Every night? Drenched wet or just a little? You poor girl! I had it for a while after DS - at least a month it was every night and then sporadically for another month after that. Then I never had it again but, when I started to stop BF at around 8 mos pp I had two or three nights of this. I went to my Dr. then (regular internist) who ran a bunch of tests - everything was normal and then it totally went away. When I mentioned it at my visit with my OB/GYN he said it def. could have been hormonal. Then nothing - now about 9 mos later it happened again last night twice and once two days ago. I did get AF yesterday - its my 6th or 7th AF post partum I can't remember. I am not on any meds at all - birth control or anything else - just otc prenatal vitamins!

What did your dr. say about this? I am going to see if it persists and if it does give him a call - just worried maybe it is something more serious? of course i had to google it and you know what happens then!

Thanks for your responses ladies!

Did this happen at night or during the day? Thank you! Actually, I feel perfectly fine (except for the usual AF cramps and back pain) so that is why i was so confused by this Chat Icon

Sounds hormonal. It could also be your thyroid etc. so you might want to get it checked out. You could take to your PCP and if they don't find anything wrong with your thyroid (simple blood test) then you could try your OB.

Thank you! - I actually just had a physical last week and my blood work was completely normal including my thyroid. I know he checked for this b/c i specifically asked him to since my mom developed a thyroid prob. after having babies. I asked him how the levels were and he said perfectly normal. I didn't bring this up then since it just happened after - isn't that how it always is Chat Icon At any rate, if it continues to happen i will def. be calling my ob!

I would call your OB it couldn't hurt right? Well can I ask a question - is it possible that it could be stress or anxiety related - b.c night sweats I think can be linked to that too if you have something stressful going on.

yeah. most night drenched wet. Some night just a little sweaty. But like I said, my hormones were so out of whack and then add the depo shot on top of it and I was really in a bad place hormonally, mentally and otherwise for a long time. So you can't really go by my experience. All I was saying is that it wouldn't be a stretch to say it's hormonal. How did you feel last night?

Re: night sweats?

Thanks again ladies. It didn't happen last night really - I did wake up a little tiny bit sweaty but it wasn't the same - more like just from too many blankets I am hoping.

Lillykat - it is funny you ask that b/c the first night it happened I had a horrible night sleep - my SIL was being induced and I was SO nervous for her and the baby! And the second time it happened I woke up from a nightmare Chat Icon So who knows, mmaybe it was hormonal and stress! I will let u know what happens. but, thankks again!
