Re: Am I being petty? Assistant-related problem
That's a toughie, I can see where you are coming from - just not sure how big of a deal to make out of it.
Is it internal paperwork? I'm sure everyone in you building/district knows the hierachy in your classroom.
However, if it was stuff that others saw (i.e. parents) I would be ****** with a captial "P" if she was doing that.

Re: Am I being petty? Assistant-related problem
that would make me angry as well- but I see your point how that can be construed as petty.
Is there a nice, professional way for you to say, that it is common for the lead teacher's name to be listed first on the paperwork-- it's an unwritten rule and that is just how it's done. Just be cas and say, I know it's silly-- but I just wanted you to know for future reference.
And IMO this chick has BALLS to think that she is equal to you-- could she be making an honest mistake?

Re: Am I being petty? Assistant-related problem
you are not being petty. she seems like one of those "i'm going to change the system" chicks. naive to us, but realistic to her.

Some of it the parents do see, such as "Notes from the teacher", and when one parent asked for a list of her childs teachers for holiday gifts, she wrote her name first. (nice)
I think it is largely part of her personality, she holds nothing back if she thinks she is right (which is most of the time), even when speaking to our supervisors and head boss. She think she is on equal terms with everybody. Can she really be that naive, OR that full of herself?? SHE IS 19!!!!!!!!
I think that fact that she is 19 is key. I hate to say it - but you may need to teach her what "professionalism" is. She needs to be taken down a few notches now, before she says something that really gets her in trouble. I think you would be doing her a favor if you told her.
