No dirty diapers for 2 days UPDATE

DD hasn't had a dirty diaper in 2 days.

She keeps straining, and we think for sure that she's going, but then I go to change her and there's nothing there

Gave her some prunes with her cereal this morning, and chased it with some water. Anything else I can do?

BTW, DD is almost 7 months.

You can try pear juice, or white grape juice. Try to give her plenty of water.

what worked for Emma a few times was:

lay baby on his/her back, grab the ankles and pump their legs into the chest (softly).

also -

on back again - pump their legs like they're riding a bicycle.

warning though - we did this twice for Emma - one time it worked within 15 minutes and another time in about an hour - but WOW - the amount of doody was OVERWHELMING both times!!!!

The prune juice should work. Also try water.

this is kinda gross but when i saw dd straining, i helped "spread" it open for her, it helped.

Apple juice or apple sauce works for my son.

I swear by the rectal thermometer trick...act as though you're taking baby's temperature, insert the thermometer and then take it out...DD always pooped as a result (lot of people swear by this).

A qtip dipped in Aquaphor inserted rectally worked for us when Ryan was about 6 months. And that was after 5 days with no poop. Stuck it in and did tiny circles for 15 seconds (ped wanted us to do for 45 seconds but there was no way that was happening).

On less severe days I have given warm baths. While in the tub lay baby back (support head) and do light massage on the belly, circular motions.

Bicycle motion with legs while laying on changing table also helps break it up.

I would lay off of binding foods for a few days (bananas, rice, oatmeal, etc) and up the fiber if possible (apples, pears)

Shaylie didn't poop at all yesterday and this morning, she was having issues. She went, but it wasn't a lot. I just gave her prunes with no cereal and it did the trick.

So here's an update:

DD did wind up going twice yesterday...there was a LOT of straining, and it was all hard and pellet-like I'm not sure if it added up to the usual amount, but she seems uncomfortable today. DD never fusses unless she is tired, but she was fussy all night long

The prunes didn't agree with her...she was spitting up brown all day long.

My sister told me about an old family remedy that she swears by, I boiled 1/2 tsp. of fennel seed in 8 oz. water, put a tiny bit of sugar and gave it to DD in a bottle. Here's hopin!!!

try apple or pear juice. If that doesnt work take a thermometer and just wiggle it around a bit. She should go within the next hour or two.
