Re: NO Green on get pinched day
As others have said I also have never heard of being pinched for not wearing green. Although, I am not Irish (although my DH is part) I have always worn green in celebration of the Saints day since I am Catholic & that is what I was taught in school.
I tend to get a little annoyed when people say they do not celebrate the day because they are not Irish. But really its a Saints feast day.
I am wearing green today as I have always done. & I will wear red on Saturday, March 19, to celebrate St. Josephs day, as I always have.

Re: NO Green on get pinched day
I purposely NEVER wear the color of the event (Green today - Red on Valentines day, etc). Today I opened the closet and said "OK, what can I wear that is NOT green..."
So I agree with the idea of a physical or verbal smackdown on the pincher.

I would freak out someone pinched me for not wearing green. I do not celebrate St. Patrick's day. I'm not irish and I'm not catholic, it's a total nonevent to me. I think it's pretty rude and obnoxious for anyone to presume I should care or should celebrate it.

Re: NO Green on get pinched day
I'm so surprised that so many people have not heard of this! I guess I learned the hard way by being Italian and refusing to wear green for many years. I have green on today because i don't want to be bothered. And besides, I DO have a little irish in me now (in my belly)

I've never heard of this...
is this some weirdo LI thing?
if someone came up to me and pinched me, i think i'd probably punch them.. so yeah.. not cool
No it's not just LI. I used to work in Corporate and I worked in an office in NC and they did that.
I told them I was French. I was told "Everybody is Irish on St Patrick's Day".
So I would put a green sticky note on my shirt to qualify for the "skip the pinch day".
I personaly think this is the most morronic thing I have experienced in an office.

Re: NO Green on get pinched day
Pinch me, I’m Irish
Forgot to wear green on St. Patty’s Day? Don’t be surprised if you get pinched. No surprise, it’s an entirely American tradition that probably started in the early 1700s. St. Patrick’s revelers thought wearing green made one invisible to leprechauns, fairy creatures who would pinch anyone they could see (anyone not wearing green). People began pinching those who didn’t wear green as a reminder that leprechauns would sneak up and pinch green-abstainers.

I agree with this. I am not sure why this day is such a big deal to eveyone. Unless you are Irish that is. So many people asked me today- where is your green? I was like why would I wear green? I don't celebrate Hanukah so I don't have a menorah...nobody questions me on that one!

ITA, While I am 100% Irish, I would never pinch anyone, but it's just a fun day guys, not sure why everyone is so upset.

I don't know why anyone would assume that everyone gets "piss *** drunk" on St. Paddy's day. I look at it as a special day for myself and my family, as many do. We had a wonderful day at the parade and with family! For the record, I do plan to have a beer or two later!!
And, honestly, what is the big deal of being asked what to do on a certain holiday. I mean this in general, not directed at one poster in particular. I am just curious as why anyone would be seriously offended?
