I'm wearing some green, but I'm Irish.

If someone pinched me and it was because I wasn't wearing the right color, I'd likely punch them in the face and tell them that their mother is a wh0re.

ew, people take things so seriously

i had no idea Chat Icon

my off the boat sicilian parents are wearing green, making corned beef and cabbage and :GASP: wishing a Happy St Patrick's Day to people Chat Icon its just an excuse to make a boring day a little special and have a little fun.

Seriously. Ok, I get the pinching thing but I had no idea people get that upset over holidays they may or may not celebrate. My MIL (from Italy) also made corned beef and cabbage. I am absolutely 100% not Irish (nor do I look it) and could care less if someone asked me if I wore green, if I like green or whatever. And people did. They also asked me if I dressed my DD in green. So what?

Forget the Mayan calendar! I know now the world is most likely going to end because everyone is just miserable Chat Icon. I don't know..in a world where we have tragedies such as tsunamis, earthquakes, police officers being killed, and so on..it's interesting to me that THIS is what bothers people. As for me, I'm more than happy to partake in some festivities - even if it isn't 'my' holiday.

Pinching someone is annoying and immature...and so is being bothered by it.

Re: NO Green on get pinched day

I can't believe how serious some people take this!

By "pinching" its usually a little old lady who is being funny and JOKING around with you. Good lord!

Now, if someone all out pinched your skin to the point of causing bodily harm, sure, there is a reason to get mad.

But a friendly funny little nothing pinch for not wearing green is NOT something to think twice about.

Lighten up people!! Who cares? And my MIL who is 100% sicilian makes corned beef and cabbage every year and sports her "green" clothing. It's awesome. It's just for FUN it doesn't mean she is all out balls to the wall irish..just for one day she is

You are awesome Tilde. You can pinch me any day. I promise to avoid punching you.. or tossing you down the stairs and stomping you with your own stilettos. .Chat Icon

I would smack them. I do not own one pieceof green clothing, nor am I Irish, so I would be really pisssed.

Ditto.
I don't celebrate this day so leave me alone with the green already.
I don't own any and I look AWFUL in green!

i would be ****** and I am 100% Irish. lol... I think it's absolutely asinine that everyone thinks they have to walk around wearing green just because it's St. Patrick's Day.... I don't go around wearing red on Chinese New year, for example... I don't understand the "fascination" with the day... especially the steroetypes of the day, which really annoy me like the tacky green wigs, or the plastic glasses shaped like shamrocks or the guiness hats.... yes, i often wear green on st. patrick's day, but usually only because i might wear an Irish soccer jersey or something like that, and the national color is green, so the team jerseys are green. so to pinch others that aren't wearing green... that would annoy me to no end.

I would freak out someone pinched me for not wearing green. I do not celebrate St. Patrick's day. I'm not irish and I'm not catholic, it's a total nonevent to me. I think it's pretty rude and obnoxious for anyone to presume I should care or should celebrate it.

I agree with this.
I am not sure why this day is such a big deal to eveyone. Unless you are Irish that is.
So many people asked me today- where is your green?
I was like Chat Icon why would I wear green?
I don't celebrate Hanukah so I don't have a menorah...nobody questions me on that one!

It bugs me too... People asking me what Im doing for st pat day... I never went out to a bar and celebrated it... just another excuse to get piss asss drunk and that bothers me... I never understood what the big deal was to be honest

I don't know why anyone would assume that everyone gets "piss *** drunk" on St. Paddy's day.Chat Icon I look at it as a special day for myself and my family, as many do. We had a wonderful day at the parade and with family! For the record, I do plan to have a beer or two later!!Chat Icon

And, honestly, what is the big deal of being asked what to do on a certain holiday. I mean this in general, not directed at one poster in particular. I am just curious as why anyone would be seriously offended?

kathleeng... ITA!
I've been marching in the st pat's parade since i was a small kid. I've gone to the parades and celebrated st patricks day more times than I can count... and i've even gone to bars that night. AND i can honestly say.. i've never once been even buzzed and forget about piss drunk on st patricks day.

it was always more of a family holiday where we celebrate being irish and just have a good time with it!! it's not just an excuse to get piss drunk.... not for everyone anyway. Sure there are some people who might see it that way... but that's usually immature kids. the idea of the holiday as a whole is not about getting piss drunk. it's about celebrating st patrick who brought christianity to ireland... idk what about that equates to being piss drunk! it's a sad misconception and unfortunately there are some poeple who act this way and give the day an overall bad name. Not to mention some of those piss drunk people out there "celebrating" st patricks day... probably aren't even irisih and have no clue what the day is even about.

some of the things some people said on here... are really just ridiculous!

I've never pinched anyone for not wearing green... never even heard of it... but when I pictured it.. it picture more of a friendly pinch... not at all a harm inflicting one.

The few days leading up to st patricks day, I have asked my coworkers and friends to remember to wear green. And they always would come up to show me their green that day... all happy about it!! I'm talking about Italian, Equidorian, Guyenese, mixed, etc coworkers... all happily wearing green. They even would come with me to the parade during lunch and gasp.. had a good time with the day. it's just a fun day. if someone didn't wear green, the most I did was make a sad face to them. not a big deal to me.

I will honestly say this though... and IDK if I'll get flamed or not for it.. but IDK any other ethnic type of holiday where people say "everyone is such and such on whatever day". I actually like that irish people say that and include everyone in their day. I think it's a really warming gesture. And I wouldn't knock anyone for saying it either. Maybe other nationalities should do the same.

and ETA: I think a few of you said this... but I agree... with all the tragedies going on in the world today I just don't understand bashing this day when it's just a day of happiness. I think people need to embrace the little happiness there is out there in the world these days.

Re: NO Green on get pinched day

I have never ever heard of the getting pinched for not wearing green thing and I am 100% Irish. But I also dont get why people are bothered if other (not Irish) people get into the holiday however they want to celebrate it. The only thing that bothers me is the teenagers that skip school and get drunk at 9am and rowdy all day starting fights on the train and at the parade which I personally witnessed several times on Thursday. St Patricks Day is NOT an excuse to get drunk, so grow up! But otherwise Italians, Hispanics, Swedes, Asians whatever and whathaveyou celebrating it, I say go for it! Whatever floats your boat! Just something fun in an otherwise dull month.
My MIL and her friend are here visiting from Ireland and we took them into the parade in the city (we always go) and while it is not celebrate the same way here as it is in Ireland, they thoroughly enjoyed it and yes, they were wearing green and brought some silly hats from Ireland to wear. They loved every minute of it.
