No Kill Shelters
Does anyone have a list of No Kill Shelters on Long Island - preferably eastern Suffolk.
TIA!

Re: No Kill Shelters
the little shelter is no-kill, as is north shore animal league. those are the only two that come to mind, since i don't live in NY anymore...
are you looking to bring an animal or adopt one? cause if you're looking to adopt, you can also go to a government kill shelter and save a life that way... i got one of my dogs at the NYC shelter (back then it was called the center for animal care and control), and she was scheduled to be euthanized that day. now she is the best dog i could ever ask for!
good luck!

Re: No Kill Shelters
The Little shelter definitely is. Bide-a-wee is as well. Most municiple shelters are not no-kill, so I would think it safe to immediately remove them from this list. I would do a search using Petfinder. You can do it by zip code if I am not mistaken.

Re: No Kill Shelters
Just FYI- Town Shelters (kill shelters) are much easier to adopt from- you don't have to go through the investigation process. We got Annie from Islip town Shelter. I've been to Brookhaven before- they have a very large selection and they have some dogs on their website. Also there are no "adoption fees". The shelter spayed Annie just before we picked her up and they paid a whopping $2.50 for her license.
Whether you go private or a town shelter you are saving a life!
ETA: I believe there is a private shelter in Port Jeff and One in East Islip. As the above poster said, you can check on Petfinders.

Re: No Kill Shelters
I am actually not adopting, I am bringing in three cats that are strays at work and deserve a real home. I was thinking Little Shelter, but wasn't sure if they had openings, so was hoping for more options.
Thanks all!

Re: No Kill Shelters
There is also Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. If you go to any shelter & they can't take them usually they will give you a list of other shelters that may be able to.

Contact the Petcos in around you area. Some of them have rescues for cats/kittens and can find them homes when the other shelters won't take them.
