No naps after 5pm? Huh???
My best friend told me her Ped. said this to her in order for a decent bedtime....
Alyson is a short napper and catnaps in the car on the way home from work (somewheres around 5:15-5:20) for about 15-20 min.
Once in a blue moon she'll nap (only at home or my friends house, NEVER at work) for up to 2 1/2 hrs. and then it's only 2 naps for the day.
Bedtime as of right now is USUALLY between 7-8pm, but for example today, she ate her cereal at 4:30ish, she got her bath, took her bottle (as she rubbed her eyes) and by the time she was done fussing it out, it was only 6pm!!!

Re: No naps after 5pm? Huh???
Go with Aly's flow.
Alex catnaps all day too (usual nap is 20 min) She is napping right now (7:30pm) and will wake in a bit, watch a little Einstein, read a book w/ me & just have some downtime, then go to bed around 9ish. Lots of times she'll even fall asleep watching Einstein at 8:30, then wake, have a bottle, then go right to bed for 9 hours. Do what works for the two of you.

I think Aly is too young for that rule. I remember Alex would take a late afternoon nap until he was about 8 months old. Once he was older I wouldn't let him nap after 4pm. But then again he goes to bed for the night at 6:30.

i had a similar situation tonight. DS fell asleep at 6......and he usually has a bedtime of 7:30, but he was knocked out, so I put him in the crib...still sleeping! I'll see when he gets up tomorrow, but I am treating it more like an earlier bedtime than a nap....

Re: No naps after 5pm? Huh???
Emily used to always nap at around 5:30 pm in the car on the way home and used to sleep until about 7:30! This was around 6 months old. Now she has cut that nap out and doesn't nap after around 4pm but I say if your girl needs it then she needs it! You are mom and you know what your baby needs. I get annoyed when people make "rules" because every baby is different and usually the only one who knows BEST is mommy.

Re: No naps after 5pm? Huh???
DD always naps anytime between 4-7 pm. I found that if I skip this nap and try to sneek her to bed early she ends up taking the nap in the evening. So if I put her to bed at 7 pm she will nap from 7-9pm. I always give her the late nap, she wakes up in a great mood and we have a great night. It works for us.

We personally don't do naps after 5pm but no because anyone told us not to. Her bedtime is 7pm and for us we need to stick to a routine in order for that to work.

Re: No naps after 5pm? Huh???
My daughter quite often takes a nap around 5:30 and will sleep for an hour. She still goes to bed between 8:30-9 and sleeps until around 7:30 the next day. She is almost 14 months old. But I think in her case- her morning nap would normally be 2- 2 1/2 hours but sadly it's right about the time that DH needs to take her to daycare so she may still need it. But then again she still does a lot on the weekends when she can nap as longs as she wants.
