No Outlet Outside- Lighting-Decorations?

I don't have any outside outlets and my kids have been begging us to decorate outside. I'm starting to hear about outside lights that are "battery operated" but I'm not sure how good they really are or if I'm just going to waste money on garbage. Anyone have this problem too? Any decent "battery operated" lights? How do you decorate outside?

ETA: Anyone have an electrician in the Oakdale area?

We just bury an extension cord against the house and into the garage. Our garage door still closes. Is that an option?

No garage, it would have to be run through the front door (which I kind of don't want to do). Wondering if we should just get an electrician alreadyChat Icon

Do you have an outdoor light on your house or on a post?

You can buy a socket that screws into the fixture in the place of the lightbulb. Then you plug the lights into that.

It’s not a hard job to install an outlet outside if you have electricity on the other side of the wall. My husband did it and he is by no means an electrician and it was to code when we had the house inspected before moving. It cost him like $25 to do it an a few YouTube videos! An electrician likely wouldn’t charge more than like $150-$200 if there is electricity on the other side of where you want the outlet!

Ditto. My DH did this as well.

I've wired a few outside outlets, too. It's not difficult. You really should have a couple of outlets on the outside of the house. I like having at least one per side of the house. There's always a need for an outlet. Electric power tools, lights, sitting outside on the laptop for longer than the battery lasts, decorations, etc.

All my outside lighted decorations are battery operated, they aren't garbage at all if you buy quality. Some are going on 10 years old. But I would just go for the outlet and make your life easier.

We never had outlet outside growing up, my parents used the one in the garage. Seems like such a pain they went through. They never had the money for an electrician.

I know my mom uses the battery powered for Xmas for some things and loves them. Not sure what brand though.

I would just run it through the front door and put a smart plug or a timer on it. I run ours in the garage on smart plugs that are set to go on/off at a certain time. I can just say "Alexa, turn on the Christmas lights" also

We don't put up lights, but I use my outdoor outlet for so much. IMO, I'd just have one installed.

I hang lights around my windows from inside the house

And I tape each bulb onto the window so that they stay straight

If only the rest of my house were as neat as my Christmas lights

I have a few glittery stakes in the grass and an inflatable out there - I do have outlets outside but I don’t want the lights on the roof so I do them my way

My crazy way

DH bought some battery operated ones from Home Depot and we put them out last night and they look great.
