No solids at 5 and 1/2 mths?
DD will not take solids...at least not without being very distracted. My mom was getting her to eat for a couple of weeks, but now she wants nothing to do with them.
Anyone else's dc like this?
Not sure if it's the spoon or the texture of the food, but we've tried rice and oatmeal with different consistencies and apple sauce (which she gagged on). As soon as it touches her lips, not even in her mouth, she makes a face. Then she even turns away, spits it out, etc.
I don't want to force her and really make her hate it, I might stop trying for a few days, but she is almost 6 mths and I'm a little frustrated and i don't know why, bc I'm sure she'll eventually eat, but also a little concerned.

She might just not be ready. Try again in another week or so. Many of us did not even start until after 6 months

It does take a few tries to get them to actually eat it. Its so new for them, and they just dont understand. Just keep trying! Hang in there.
I used to mix the sweet potato puree in with DS to make it sweet, and he ate better that way.

Thanks. We first started trying a month ago with the cereal. She seemed to tolerate it a little more then. It seems when I started oatmeal she started resisting more, but everything. Then last night I thought maybe I'd try mixing in a little apple sauce, but she gagged.

Maybe start off watering it down more, so its more of a liquid rather than a solid and as she gets used to it, put less and less water in? That way the texture isnt SO new to her???

Re: No solids at 5 and 1/2 mths?
seems like she's not quite ready. I would hold off and try again in a couple of weeks.
DD just turned 6 months yesterday and I have not yet started her on solids. I didn't see the need to rush things. My ped doesn't recommend starting before 6 months anyway.

My son wasnt ready to start cereal till that age after a few tries. Sounds like more time is needed. Just keep trying.
