Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
Do you do craft projects with your kids?
When the boys were in daycare, they did all kinds of cool craft projects. Now that they are home w/ us, we never do cool stuff like that with them. We do all kinds of other fun things, but no arts and crafts projects. I kind of miss seeing their cute little projects on the refrigerator (but really don't have the energy to do one w/ them).
Just curious what others do.

DS doesn't go to daycare either. My MIL watches him 3x a week. We don't really do crafts with DS. I'm not really sure what type of crafts to do with him, KWIM? I literally have no point of reference, where to start, etc.
What kind of crafts did they do in daycare?
Anyone have any good craft ideas (not to hijack Jenn!).

They did all kinds of painting projects, things with construction paper, creative things that I just don't think of on my own.

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
I babysit for a little girl and we are doing projects all of the time...2-3 a week I'd say now that she is in preschool 3x/week, but last year when we were home all the time together it was moer then that.
This year we do a lot of work with her name. Practice writing it, tracing over it a ton of times with diff color crayons to make "Rainbow letters" --- glueing the letters in the correct order with cutouts that I've made, making Jello letters, etc. She is 3 and learning to write her name so we've been doing a lot with that.
We also do a lot with the seasons. I was a pre-k teacher so I have a lot of ideas...and if I am stuck on an idea I just google it and always come up with something.
She gets dropped off at 6:20am and stays until 5pm. It's a LOOOOOONG day if I don't break it up with some crafts!
Even if you are not crafty Michael's and AC Moore sells so many great, prepackaged foam kits for a dollar! They are great also!

Do you have any suggestions for younger toddlers? DS doesn't write yet, doesn't really color yet either. He's almost 20 months.

I just started a new thread --- November Craft Ideas...a lot of those things can be done with a younger child as long as you pre-cut the construction paper items. You can get a huge pack of construction paper at AC Moore for very cheap! Let me know if you need anymroe ideas!

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
All the time! I work at a daycare part time so I get a lot of ideas from them. I also watched a little boy full-time last year and part time this year so it keeps me motivated to fit crafts and projects into our daily schedule. I usually do things related to holidays and seasons...

Stickers! today we make "trick or treat" bags and decorated them with stickers. Lots of cutting an pasting too. Last week we make owls out of paper places and different shapes and I would do the paste and have my son paste the shapes in the right areas.

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
Seriously? This is what I dislike about these boards. Someone always has to be feeling excluded, or judged, or insulted. Now you have to worry about whether the title of your post will make someone feel persecuted
I'm sure the OP was addressing non-daycare moms as they probably have a little more experience filling the day with craft projects and such. Just like a daycare mom probably has more expertise with labeling clothes and supplies, lunch and snack ideas to pack, etc.
Anyway, to answer the question-- I don't do projects as elaborate as what they do in preschools, etc. But we do plenty of painting, coloring books, stickers, foam craft kits occasionally, cutting/gluing construction paper shapes to make holiday themed stuff, etc. In a pinch I'll print out some coloring pages from Nick Jr or twistynoodle.com

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
I'm a SAHM and I try to do something with DS once a week. He has PDD-NOS so its usually sensory/tactical stuff: finger painting, fruit painting, coloring, stringing stuff, etc. He is 22 months old.

im the mother of a child who spends M-F 815am - 530pm in daycare and I didnt feel excluded
i was bright enough to realize that she is likely addressing SAHM mom's because they likely have more time to search for and execute crafts since they are well, stay at home moms and spend many more hours of their days with their respective children

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
DS is in daycare full time and they always do such GREAT projects that I try to duplicate at home when I can.
They paint a lot with different types of objects: spiky ball, brushes, feathers, leaves, hands, cotton balls, sponges cut in pieces, apple halves,.... the list goes on and on.
They also use the foam stickers you might find at Michaels to decorate paper.
They use crayon a lot to just simply color pictures. It's fun for DS to color pages.
They write DS's name with a wet roller glue stick and let him throw colored sand over the paper (probably in a box) and what you'll find at the end is his name in sand.
They make things out of his handprints/footprints like a tree (using his forearm) and his hands for leaves, and his feet for grass.

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
I do a ton of arts and crafts projects with my DD. (she's 3) I scour Michael's for cute seasonal projects and I tap my stash of goodies from my teaching days. I also just signed up DD to receive the "Kiwi Crate" every month. (someone posted about this earlier) It's a kit filled with EVERYTHING you need to do two projects with your little ones. It's delivered to your door every month for $19.99.

Michael's sell this really great craft set for $9.99 (you can use a 40% off coupon on it). It comes with tissue paper, sticker sheets, popsicle sticks, buttons, corrugated paper, pom poms, etc. It's really a great value. It's in a clear plastic tall container. It's with the foam stickers, etc.

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
right now we do coloring or drawing every morning.
he got the melissa and doug coloring pad and he has a set of washable markers. it's great.
he does it after breakfast while I am getting ready for work, and then he does it again (sometimes on construction paper instead) when my nieces are doing homework as his "homework".
I plan to introduce more crafty things like making christmas trees and such when I am home with him in December.
also, I want to make hand turkey's. I remember doing this in school the outline of your hand is the turkey's body and feathers and then you add the rest.

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
DD is with her nanny Mon-Wed and I do see some coloring that they do when I get home. I would love to get some ideas of crafts to do as well. She's 17 months and we've tried coloring, stamps, stickers, finger painting with baby food. It's hit or miss. I'm thinking of going to the dollar tree and getting those foam art kits. She really won't get it but hey...it's a start!

Re: Non-daycare moms, craft projects?
My 1 year old does coloring, playdoh, gluing etc. My 3 year old we do more projects--one thing I have done is get together with a bunch of moms and do an oriental trading order, super cheap for a bunch of crafts. Right now he loves to cut and glue anything.
