Non-Dropside Crib and being short
If your only around 5' tall - did you still get a non-dropside crib?
I feel guilty looking for a dropside crib since they have become harder to get and there are more and more questions about their safety. I know that many of my friends have them, but I just think that I would worry given the recent publicity/problems with them. On the other hand, can I really reach into a non-dropside considering my height?
Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
I'm 5'1" and have a non-dropside crib. The side of the crib comes to a little higher than my waist. Right now I have no issues since I still have the mattress on the highest level. I tested it out in the store though and didn't have any issues reaching in with the mattress on the low setting.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
We have the dropside for DS (Bonavita peyton from BBB) and I have no complaints with it. It was extremely useful for when DS was an infant. I stopped dropping the side when DS was about 10 months old and he could stand on his own. We use it as a stationary crib now but will soon transition him to a bed. I will keep the crib for when DD comes.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
I'm 5'1" and I only looked at regular cribs - I'm not a fan of dropside. There were times when my son was an infant when I had to put him in the crib sleeping, that I couldn't reach. I used to keep a high pair of old platform shoes behind his door - slip into them, and lay him down.
Once he stopped going to bed asleep it was fine, I could just plop him in and run!

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
I'm about 5'2" and have a non-dropside crib. At the lowest level, it was a bit difficult to reach in at first because I had to lay DS directly on his back right in the crib. Now that he's more mobile, it's easier to put him in standing or sitting and he'll lie down on his own.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
I'm 5'1" and have a Non-Dropside crib. I have a Bonavita Peyton crib. The lady at BBB told me this was a good crib for short people. DS is 4.5 months old and I have no problem taking him in and out of it. I haven't dropped the mattress down yet, but I don't see it being that big of a deal.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
while I haven't actually used our crib yet, we ordered the Bonavita Metro crib. This is a non-dropside crib with a lower front end. I am just 4'11" and was worried about being able to reach the baby.
I did extensive research, and even though this front side is lower than most other cribs, the matress is still the same distance from the top of the front side as other cribs.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
I had a non dropside. the only time it was an issue is when DD wanted her back rubbed - my arm hurt at times...but it wasn't so bad...get a nice stool to keep near the crib in case you need it.

Re: Non-Dropside Crib and being short
i'm fairly short and have no problems with the non-dropside crib.
i have a little stool for the bath time that i could always put in the baby's room, but i've never needed to and DS's mattress has been on the lowest setting for months

I am 4'11 1/2 and have only had issues now that my belly is huge at 39 weeks. I also have a decorative step stool in her room in the event I need it.
