Normal HSG - what is the next step?

On 4/4 I had my HSG procedure. Everything came back normal and I didn't yet call the RE to see what the next step would be.

From your experience with TTC, what is typically the next step after a normal HSG? Dh had a SA and everything came back normal, and I had bloods done and those came back normal as well.

The HSG was really painful for me, and I'm afraid of what I'll need to get done next.

Re: Normal HSG - what is the next step?

My HSG, CD3 bloodwork and DH's SA all came back normal as well.

We brought all our test results to our first RE consult.

Her suggestion is to do a post-coital test as the next step. It could be that my CM is "hostile" to DH's sperm, and as a result, the sperm are not surviving, and not able to get to where they need to be.

sorry your HSG was painful. Chat Icon

Good luck!!!

Thanks for replying, Donna!

What happens with the post-coital test (well, besides getting a test after bding, lol)? Is it bloodwork, or a sample of some sort? This whole process is really upsetting me, and I know we haven't been trying for years and years as others have... I'm worried that my diagnosis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is going to impact fertility for us. I've been "regulated" for almost three years now, but it's pretty severe.

And apparently, even though I didn't *think* I was stressed, I really am. My left eye has been twitching on/off for four days now and it's supposedly a sign of stress. Yipee!

I just want to do the right thing and not waste precious time in this whole TTC process, KWIM?

Thanks for listening to my ramblings...

We haven't had the PCT test yet. Still waiting to O. I don't know if there's any type of additional bloodwork involved with it. sorry.

And my left eye has been twitching on and off too!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't rule out that lots of women get bfp the month of the HSG, so don't forget to BD. You never know. It worked for me (yes, I had a m/c early on but that was due to a chromosomal issue, or my thyroid issue that I didn't know I had). I just looked up the difference b/w hashimoto and hyperthyroidism (which is what I have). Do they treat you with the same meds, Synthroid (levothyroxin)? I keep thinking the HSG is a lot cheaper than IVF. Wish they'd send me for another one. That month is was so "easy". We didn't really try, though maybe that was the key.

Anyway, I always write too much. You can tell I work alone all day.

Best of luck on your next step.

A post coital could be a next step as well as some genetic testing for you and DH. You might also be asked to go in for a progesterone test a few days after ovulation to make sure there are no LP issues. I assume that you had your thyroid checked as well. We are unexplained IF at this point because all tests so far have come back normal. Your doc might recommend IUI with or without medication as a first step in treatments. HTH!

If you have hashimotos you may want to read the book, "Is Your Body Baby Freindly?" by Dr. Alan Beer. Very informative and even if you have no "traditional" issues a thyroid issue can signal that your immune system is out of whack
