Normal looking beggar in Penn Station...what would you do?
ok..so there is this young guy who hangs out in Penn Station every day..he is around 27 and is crazy. I can tell he is crazy because he talks to his metro card and pretends it is a cell phone.
Anyway..he carries his metro card around every day at Penn Station and tells people he needs 2 more dollars to put on his metro card. I've steered several people away from him.
This annoys me because of the current state of the economy, this jerk is asking people for money. I should probably ignore it, but I just can't.
I'm about to tell the guy off, but he will probably possess me with his crazy powers.
There are cops partroling every day. Should I just tell a cop to kick him out? What would you do?

i would leave him alone. he's not hurting anyone. if people want to give him something its up to them. if he becomes a nuisance the police will take care of him.

I agree. He is not harrassing people--they can ignore him if they don't want to give. Many homeless people are mentally ill, and just because he looks able-bodied doesn't mean that he is stable enough to hold a job. Calling it "his crazy powers" is kind of making fun of the mentally ill. He clearly has issues, but why should the cops kick him out?

I thought all people talk to their Metro cards? j/k
I would just tell the cop. You dont know what he would do to you especially if you think he's nuts.

No...i'm not making fun..and sorry you read it that way. Have you ever seen a beggar harrass someone in Penn Station? I've seen innocent people punched in the face by just walking by and spit on for not giving money. Maybe I am just paranoid or I've just seen too much I guess.

Re: Normal looking beggar in Penn Station...what would you do?
i would have to say instead of calling the cops maybe call ss and see if they can send someone down to help him... there was this guy at a 7 11 one VERY cold day last winter who slept in front of the store all night and not one person did anything to help. i got on my phone immediately and called 911 and they connected me to emergancy houseing who sent out a person to help him. he very well maybe in need of help and i mean medical. just my thoughts

I agree. If he isn't bothering you let it be. there are WAY to many other things to stress over.

Same here. If he is there everyday, the cops are probably already aware of the situation.

Leave him alone. If he's crazy you don't want to deal with him.
People like him have been there for years, claiming they have been mugged and need $2 to get home (they usually name a nice town too). They're not going away, just ignore him.
