North Carolina.
My whole family wants to move, and I kind of do as well. It is getting very expensive here, and I don't want to struggle.
Is there any of you that is thinking of moving to NC? I want any info on places to live and good school districts.
Thanks!!

Re: North Carolina.
Me, ME!!! We are planning on going in January to visit. THere are a couple of girls on here that have lots of info on NC. We are looking into parts of Charlotte, and a RE agent recommended Union County (Indian Trail, Waxhaw...and some other towns that I forget the names of!) for safe areas/good schools/low taxes. IF we do move, we;d wait until the summer, so my son can finish 2nd grade here

I was dead set against it as well...leaving my family and all. But looking at the kind of house you can get there for your $$... I feel like we'd be crazy NOT to do it.
Look at this!!!

Re: North Carolina.
We were at hubby's aunt's house last night and the entire family is looking to pick up and go.
It IS very tempting, considering the cost of the houses and the taxes.

Re: North Carolina.
We are going to Raleigh!!! Actually DH is there already. He started work on November 1. Our best friends moved there over the summer and LOVE it!!!
DH got us an apartment this past weekend and moves in on November 20 (he will be going back and forth to NY to help pack & move and be crashing with our friends when he is there until then). I won't be going down for good until January b/c we need my December salary to pay for the move (we don't want to touch our savings) and also b/c my sister (lmb03) is having a baby in December and I want to be here for it.
I can't even tell you about the awesome apartment he found us on a lake!!! The price is incredible! We signed a 7 month lease so we can get down there and find the area we want to buy a house in. I am so excited about this move!
It will be hard to leave our families but we have no life here. We make decent salaries and live in someone's basement with no hope of buying anything soon. We don't want to spend our lives being house poor and struggling to survive. It's not that far away that we can't easily visit.

Re: North Carolina.
DHs parents and sister moved to Kernersville, NC not too long ago. It's kind of between Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
I could never move to where they live though... a little too rural for me. But they got beautiful new construction homes in a new development for amazing prices.

Re: North Carolina.
I'm curious what the year round weather is like in NC? I assume there are more "seasons" than Florida, to me the summer in FL is beastly and this would seem like more of a compromise.
(thinking looooong term future, 2nd/vacation home, retirement)

We have seasons and the best part is the winter only lasts for about 3 weeks and around christmas so it's nice. I'm in NW Florida between Destin and Pensacola

Re: North Carolina.
We moved To Charlotte in February '05. Like others, I was dead set against it, my family was on LI and I thought it was just too hard to move. Ten months later I know I am never ever ever going back to live on Long Island.
I have a 25 min drive to work, a beautiful five bedroom house for just my husband and I, low taxes, better weather and my mortgage payment INCLUDING taxes if $1018 a month.
Everything is soo new and updated here.
As for the weather, this summer when it was 90+ everyday, I would call my dad in NY and it was the same weather, only he was standing on a subway platform making it even worse.
Right now, it's been high 70's low 80's all week, but that is considered unseasonably warm, winters the high is usually in the 30's. you DEFINITELY get four seasons here, just a lot less snow.
Any questions, please feel free to ask, I've spoken to alot of people on here about it.

Re: North Carolina.
Wow - with all this talk Ron will have to start a NCFamilies! My SIL and her family are building a house one the southeast coast. She's trying to convince us to go too. For those that are moving - are you transferring with your company (or is DH) or are you job hunting there? If DH could transfer with his NY salary we'd consider it. Maybe.
