North Shore Towns- Nassau County
so now Jake might not want to move to Westchester- I still am trying to change his mind but
I need to think about other options as a back up
unfortunately every town that is in driving distant to CT- are the most expensive places to live
Bayside, Douglaston, little neck , great neck, manhasset, roslyn, see where I am going with this
I have to be north or near the LIE- b/c south of the LIE on the cross island is not something doable for my job
any ideas? am I missing any great towns? we wont buy a co-op- which is the obvious alternative- no more buildings!

Except that it is somewhat far north, Glen Cove might be a good option for you. Then you could take Northern to the Cross Island. From what I have heard, the school district isnt that great though.
Some parts of Rolyn are more affordable. Also try New Hyde Park, East Williston and Williston Park.
As you know, I am in Manhasset. My neighbor commutes to Stamford and he said that it normally takes him about 50 minutes.

50 minutes sounds about right- it take me 35 to 40 minutes now from Bay terrance- and that's about what it would take from the house I want in westchester- but it would take Jake at least an hour to work - when it take him 15 minutes now
I am not 100% crazy about Glen Cove
but I will do a search on the others
I would love to find something in Manhasset- but nothing jumped out at me with the price range I put in- I think I have to up it $100K
it's just that the house I love in westchester is so nice and such a good price- once I compare it to things I am seeing in the same price range- I get upset - but it's FSBO and on Craigs list (it should be at least $100K more then it's listed for) so it's hard to compare that to MLSLI-

You can also look in Albertson, Lake Success, and the nothern end of Williston Park, they are all right off the LIE and northern state.
Look up houses in the herricks school district, there are a bunch of smaller towns in the school district that are more affordable and near the LIE and NS.

Where in CT will he be working? Would he consider taking the ferry from Pt. Jeff to Bridgeport daily? That way you could find a place (if you don't already live near Pt. Jeff) in Coram or other surrounding towns near Pt Jeff...just a thought.

I work in CT- Stamford- so that is not an option
he works in Garden City and we live in Bayside now
our orginal plan was to buy ont he south shore- but then I got this job in CT- and that changed that- we decided on westchester but now he is reconsidering
( we grew up in Setuaket- which is how he was out then when he got into the accident)

Re: North Shore Towns- Nassau County
I live on the north shore of Nassau County and DH commutes to Bayside. Not too bad. We are a little further east, just before suffolk county though, which is probably a little bit too far. What about areas like Glen Head, Sea Cliff, Port Washington, etc.

Re: North Shore Towns- Nassau County
Try New Hyde Park or Floral Park. I've heard good things about both, and they are both very close to Great Neck and Little Neck (about another 15 minutes south). Albertson and Williston Park are not too far either. If you're not picky about schools, Mineola is possible too. None of these are North Shore exactly, but they aren't far at all.
Port Washington and Roslyn Heights are lovely, though they are more expensive than the towns mentioned. Also, Rosyln Heights is on a sucky train line if you are commuting to NYC. We considered it at one point, but the commute to the city would be bad for both of us.
Good luck!

Re: North Shore Towns- Nassau County
thanks everyone- I need to include all those town in my search
I think we are still better off in westchester- maybe looking in these areas will only prove me right
you guys kind of already proved me right- we can get alot more for our money if he is willing to be 33 to 45 more further away from the firends he rarely sees-
