North Shore University Hospital
What was your experience at North Shore Hospital in the L&D room and the maternity/pp ward. How many patients per room in the maternity area. I know LIJ is 4 patients in a room. How are the nurses? I am deciding on which hospital to give birth

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I just had my triplets at NSUH July 31 and can only say good things about my stay there and the treatment I received by the entire staff. I had only 1 other person in the room with me.

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I had a great experience with the nurses. NS was packed when I gave birth (full moon and there were 60+ women in maternity )
The night I gave birth I had to share a triple but I requested to change and got a double as soon as possible (later that day). Then I stayed in the double until I was discharged and lucked out because my roommate went home so I had it to myself!
also besides the nurses I liked the classes at NS and the 9pm dessert table

I had a good experience there. I was in a triple (high risk is 3 to a room) for 3 nights prior to delivery to be monitored for high blood pressure. Most nights, no one else was there. The nurses really make your stay! (Sounds like a hotel!) They were fabulous!

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I can say that wholeheartedly that the nurses were the BEST! In L/D I had 2 nurses and they were supporting and caring. They cheered me on and when we decided that I would need a c-section, the team in the OR was amazing. They kept my spirits up and I knew I was in capable hands.
When I was in the maternity ward, I was in a room with one other person. The nurses (once again) were incredible. They were so helpful and friendly. I made sure I wrote their names down so I could write them a thank-you note after I left (yeah.. never got a chance to write the thank-you since I've been a busy mommy!)
You are in capable, wonderful hands! Good luck!

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I delivered at NSUH in Jan. Great experience. I was induced so I was there about 18 hours before I actually delivered. I was not happy upon my arrival for the induction (b/c they were so busy so I was triaged) but once I got into a labor room e/t fell into place. The nurse I had during the overnight was awesome and my L&D nurse when DS was actually born was great. I had a private room so I can't answer questions about the rooms. I was there for such a short time but the nurses were good. There were a couple that were awesome and there were a couple that were just o.k.
Overall, Iwould definitely deliver there again.
ETA: I had an epi and the anesthesiologist was awesome!!!

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I delivered at NSUH and had one of the rennovated semiprivate rooms. It was great! Flat screen TV's, wood floors, couch for DH, stone bathroom. The nurses were great. My only complaint was that they really frown upon FFing and push BFing big time.

Re: North Shore University Hospital
I've never been admitted to NSUH but I have visited a friend in post-partum. She had a private room (paid extra $$$) but the actual room itself was nice, the nursing staff seemed helpful and I know the baby stayed with her most of the time. Hope this helps
