Not pregnant yet, but a question for all you mommies to be!
Hi there,
I am planning on starting TTC in January and I was curious for all of you who worked/are working....when did you tell your bosses? And how did you tell them? Were they OK, angry, indifferent?
The reason I ask is because I have a great job and I kind of "run the show" and another girl I work with is pregnant and she told them and they were happy for her, but I could tell (knowing them so well) that they were a little annoyed. Not quite sure why....so I am just wondering how you all handled it....
Thanks for any info or insight!

First of all - good luck to you!
I told work when I was about 20 weeks. Most of my co-workers are women, so they loved the news.
It's easy for me to say, but don't worry about what they "think" about you being pregnant. It will be a blessing for you and don't let your job get in the way of your future family plans.

Wee I just started a new job in June and I found out on July 16th that I was pregnant. I waited until I was 9 weeks to tell my job. They seemed happy for me, I think they are fine with it. I will be coming back to work after a 12 week maternity leave. Good luck

Both of my bosses are moms and since I work in education, lots of people go out on pregnacy leave. I told them when I told everyone else and they have been great
It really helps to have a plan- how long you are going to be out, you expected last day- I know they were grateful to know my plans.

Re: Not pregnant yet, but a question for all you mommies to be!
they were probably annoyed because they are being selfish that she will be taking maternity leave, have doctor appointments, etc.
I am an executive assistant for a senior founding partner in a firm, as well as two other partners. I told him when I was about 8 weeks because I had to take a few days off to be on bedrest. He was concerned about my health and I had to tell him. He and the other partners were very happy for me and still are. They are being very understanding with my having to leave early if I don't feel well and take days off, longer lunches for doctor appointmens, etc. But, it is a two way street. I work my butt off for them and they know that. If I just slid by whithout caring, then they wouldn't care either.
My main boss is nervous about when I will be out, but very happy about me starting my family. They are all willing to compramise, but as I said it's a two way street. I appreciate them and they appreciate me.

I told my boss at 3 months. No one seemed mad, but as I started to look more and more pregnant, I did feel like I was getting passed up for projects (maybe I'm just being sensitive), but it has really bothered me.

Re: Not pregnant yet, but a question for all you mommies to be!
I told my boss at 2 1/2 months because I found out I was pregnant at 2 months and was sick all the time after that. She was happy for me and I run the show as well at my job but she knew eventually she would need to find a replacement because I was going to leave to be a SAHM - to this day she is still begging me to come back part-time...I am sure they will be fine with it.....I was able to promote a staff member to my position so that was good...I guess it depends on the occupation you are in, but I can't see why anyone would be annoyed and i wouldn't take it personally - this is a happy time in your life!! ENJOY IT!!!

Re: Not pregnant yet, but a question for all you mommies to be!
I have a little bit of a different situation. I told my boss right away ( at 4 weeks) She knew I was having infertility issues and she seemed happy for me when I told her. The reason I spilled the beans so earily is that I do physical work (I work in a spa as an esthetician) and I work with essential oils that I now need to avoid. I am going to have to give up my waxing clients soon because I won't be able to really do the same kind of work with a belly. Bed rest is always hanging over my head as I continue, so I thought it was fair that she knew that I may have to take a leave suddenly.

I am nervous and will hold off telling them for as long as I can - I love my job and my bosses but I worry they will be upset b/c in my office 90% of the people in the past who get pregnant don't come back. The few who did come back told me that they asked them about once a week if they were coming back.

I told my boss right away as well. At my job there is a lot of "running around" after kids and even lifting involved. I didnt want her to think I was being "Lazy". She was so happy for me. I told the rest of my coworkers a few weeks later. I haven't missed work yet because of dr. appts..I schedule them at night, but, a few months ago I missed a few days due to a beautiful stomach virus. So far, So good and Im due in Jan.

My boss already knows because I have had 4 Drs appointments or tests done in the last 2 weeks. Since I work in NYC & my Dr. is in LI, I cannot just go during lunch etc.
Under normal circumstances I would not have told her for at least 6 - 8 more weeks. She is cool about it.

I did my HPT right there at work, on my lunch break, while they waited for the results - needless to say, they found out when I did!

I told my bosses at 5 weeks since Iwas so ill from the pregnancy. had no choice. Two were estatic and one was indifferent since I ran the show in my department. I was asked everyday until the day I left if I was sure I wanted this umm, yeah!
