Not Sure what is going on...

I don't know if anyone can help me, but here is my situation right now. I have not been ovulating and having AF at all. SO my Dr. put me on Prometrium to kick start my system, get a period , and see if this will trigger my body to respond by ovulating. I did get a real quick period. Now I am using my CBE monitor, and it has said I have HIGH fertility every single day (which can't be true) LOL....I am sure the monitor is just trying to figure out my body, but the other strange thing is that my temp has stayed in the high 97.something range. Whereas it was always in the low 96 range before, is this just a side effect from being ont he Progesterone? I am on CD15, and have NO IDEA what is going on with my bodyChat Icon

Any help appreciated

I am not certain if this is side effects to the progesterone but to me it sounds like you suffer from hyperthyroidism. Have you checked your thyroid levels? To me the temps are similar to those who suffer from hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

ETA: do you have the book Taking Charge of your feritility? It's a Great Book!!! This is where I first learned that I suffered from hypothyroid b/c of my waking temperatures.

I'm sorry, I have no idea. I do think the monitor is getting used to you, I have heard that happens. BUt I would ask your MD.

Re: Not Sure what is going on...

The monitor takes about two cycles to get used to your body. I had a high reading for about 12 days, never getting the peak.

Good Luck!!

Re: Not Sure what is going on...

You should watch and see if your temps rise. You may just be a "hot" person with high temps, but you won't know for sure until you go through a complete cycle. Once you have gone through a cycle and you see your "O" period, you'll be better able to judge.
Also, if you weren't ovulating on your own you may not ovulate now. I haven't heard of a Dr. just prescribing Provera to bring on a period and then nothing after, usually they give you Clomid to help you ovulate. But, I am not a Dr. so I may be wrong.
Either way, definitely continue to monitor your temps and you may not ovulate until much later in your cycle.(I don't ovulate until cycle day 20 or 21, even on Clomid) You will have to go through at least one cycle before you will know anything.
BTW, if you don't get a period in 40 or so days, I would definitely contact your Dr. and see if he would do anything differently.
Good luck!

Re: Not Sure what is going on...

Pregesterone will raise your temp I've been told. Also as far as the temps I think the other poster meant OVER active thyroid. An underactive thyroid would cause low temps. If I was you I would seek a second opinion. Good luck.

Yes, my Dr. wants to see me again. She just wanted to see if the Prometrium would kick my cycle back into shape. If I do not ovulate on my own she is going to try CLOMID. She did run a blood tests for thyroid etc..... She never called to say anything was wrong there, but I just called and left a message today, to see if anything came up out of normal range.

My waking temps were always VERY low before the 10 days of progesterone. They were int he 96.- 96.3 range on average. Thats why i thought maybe the prometrium shifted that somehow....but it just doesnt make sense, so I will talk to the Dr.s office about it I guess.

Re: Not Sure what is going on...

I believe(and I am not an expert here) that prometrium is synthetic progesterone. From what I understand during your luteal phase your body should naturally produce progesterone so your temps remain high(progesterone is the "hot" hormone) If you are PG your progesterone will stay high until the placenta starts to develop then it will level off. If you are not PG your progesterone starts to drop and estrogen takes over and AF starts. I asume the Dr is trying to make your body start its natural cycle again with the use of proigesterone. However, if you have low pregesterone that could be a separate issue from not getting AF. I have low progesterone and have totally normal periods BUT I have had implantation issues.
