Notice for vacation absence?
How far in advance do you let the teacher know? Do you send a written note?

Send a note. I let the school about a week or so before hand.

Yes. I write an email the week before.
I say the truth:
Hard for us the get vacation time during school weeks. Kid will be going on vacation with us.
Although I know it’s impossible to cover everything in school, please let me know if there is something new that will be introduced that I can cover with my child.
I always get a really human response from the teacher. Most of them have hubbies who work inflexible jobs.

I would give them a few weeks notice, especially if you want them to send the missed work home with you

Notice for vacation absence?
we just took our 1st grader out for a week last week. I let his teacher know like 2 weeks ago. In our case, it wasn't a huge deal because the school was only opened 2 days last week anyway ( i live in NJ and they were off 2 days for the NJ teacher's convention, and another day for election day.) So he wasn't the only one that went away that week from his class, plus with only 2 days the teacher didn't plan to introduce anything new anyway...
ETA: i sent the teacher an email letting her know, and i also sent in a written note for the office Just saying he would be out these dates for a family vacation. no big deal

I think I emailed her about 2-3 weeks in advance.
She was only missing one day the way it fell

We don't take them anymore, what when we did we told them about 2 weeks in advance, and then a reminder just right before the vacation. his teachers never sent homework to do during that time, but we always brought work sheets with us.
