November '08-January '09 Moms: What are you doing for DC's 1st Birthday? Need Advice
I can't even believe I'm actually starting to think about DS's 1st birthday. Where has time gone? 
DS's 1st birthday will be right around Chanukah and almost 2 weeks before Christmas. DH's family live an hour away. We'll see them for Christmas. My family and many of my friends (none have kids) live 2.5 hours away. Sometimes I see my family for Chanukah, but not always.
I have no idea what I'm going to do for DS's 1st birthday. I wasn't planning on having anything big, but I figured since my family all lives on LI and many of my friends are in NY, I'd just have something at my parents' house. I didn't think that many people would be willing to travel up to CT with the holidays looming. Plus, there's always a good chance of a storm. I'd either invite DH's family to my parents' house or just celebrate with them over Christmas.
When I spoke to my mom about it, she actually told me we should have it up at our house. I was surprised, but she thought it would be easier for DH's family to come and celebrate then. I also think she may want an excuse to not go to my Aunt's Chanukah party.  Honestly, I don't think DH's family would care whether they were invited to a 1st birthday party or they celebrated it over Christmas. I don't think half of the people invited would even come up if it were in CT.
Does anyone have any thoughts? What are you doing for DC's 1st birthday? If DC was born around the holidays, how are you handling that?

DD's b-day is Jan 6, and it looks like we are shooting for Jan 9  Hoping for the best with the turn-out !

My kids were born on 11-24 so 2 days before Thanksgiving last year. I told my DH I wanted to have a small GTG at our house for them. My family will probably come. My IL's and some neighbors and a friend or two. That said my DH was like Oh why don't we just do a cake on TG..Isaid NO way-their brithday is their brithday not Turkey Day...I would do a party at your Moms and if your IL's couldn't come I would do a small cake and coffe for them at your house.

we're having a character breakfast/brunch at International Delight Cafe in Bellmore (which was just redone and they got a new party room!!! Had to plug that cause who doesnt love IDC?)..
my dd's bday is on January 2nd, but since my dh's friends still "go out" and party, i figured id give a day of rest and make it Sunday jan 3rd.

my dd's bday is on January 2nd, but since my dh's friends still "go out" and party, i figured id give a day of rest and make it Sunday jan 3rd.
This is such a good idea for a 1st b-day party! I may just have to copy it! :)
DS's b-day is in March and I know I am going to face a similar predicament with having it on LI vs where we live now (upstate).
I don't know what we will end up doing...

We are having it at my parents' house on Jan. 2nd. Their birthday is Dec. 30th. I know its right after the holidays, but it always will be and people will deal with it. My b-day is Jan. 5th, and it was never an issue for my birthday parties.
DH's parents live upstate, and we will be there for Christmas. I am pretty sure they will come down here the next week for their birthday, though.

DS will be a year on 1/24, we will have a family party at our house (if we ever find one). Im not into those huge 1st birthdays. I honestly think they are a waste. JMO. Maybe about 30-40 people. Just immediate family and their kids.

my ds's bday is Nov.4th. I'm working on invitations finally this week. Since his bday is on a weekday we are going to do it Halloween wknd at our home and hopefully we have nice weather like last year!

DD's is 12/20 and we're having it on 12/20 my in laws live in BK and have a room in their building that you can rent, and this is exactly what we're doing

My DS's Bday is exactly 2 weeks before xmas and we will always celebrate it seperate from the holidays. I have no idea what we are going to do because money is tight and our apt is too small to even have all of our immediate family over for cake. Even my parent's house is too small. idk what to do

Is this something they offer as a package or are you just having a brunch party and hiring a character to come?
