November 2, 2008-My birth Story
Let me start by saying I had an absolutely wonderful experience. I was due on November 14, but kept on saying that I wanted the baby to come either Sat or Sun after Halloween. My good boy decided to listen to mommy!!
Sat. night, around 10, my husband and I went to the pizza place and I got a pepperoni roll, and a buffalo chicken slice. I was trying almost anything to get this baby out!!
Sunday morning, my oldest son (17 months) woke up at 6. We brought him into bed, and we were all lying there. He was saying, Mommy, Daddy, DD (his name is Derek and this is one of his nicknames). All of a sudden at 6:15, I felt a small gush. I said to my husband, I think my water broke, and he told me, no, I think you just peed yourself So then I started doubting myself, and I said, well I've heard of people peeing in their pants while pregnant. So I get up and feel another little gush. Then the little gushes kept on coming. So I called the dr, woke up my family, and off to the hospital we went.
We got admitted around 8. I was three cm, and I think 90% effaced. My contractions were not painful at all!!! They were very short, about 30 secs long.
Around 10-10:30, the dr came in and I was 100% and 6 + cm. The dr said it was now or never for the epi. So I went for it even though I was soo scared to get it because I wasnt in any pain. The epi dr was literally right behind the dr so there was no waiting for it (I guess they figured I would want it). They also gave me pitocin.
Around 11:15 the nurse came running in because my bp dropped to 60/40. It was crazy. The babies bp dropped once, but then was fine. Mine kept on getting better, and then dropping. Everytime it dropped, all I wanted to do was go to sleep. So it took about an hour to regulate it. Finally, I was okay to start pushing.
7 minutes, and less than 4 pushes (I say less than because I was never allowed to fully push...they kept on stopping me), at 12.26 pm our little blonde haired blue eyed beautiful baby boy entered our world. Chase Robert weighed 7 lbs 9 oz and was 21 in.
When he was delivered the drs and the nurses said how great he came out because he was "spitting" the fluid out. One of the nurses called it textbook, and the dr said he wished all babies would come out doing that. Wouldn't you know though, he had still swallowed too much fluid, and had to be brought to the nursery. They said it was because he came out so quickly that the fluid wasn't able to be squeezed out. We saw him for about 30 secs, and he was taken upstairs. We were able to see him in the nursery, but he wasn't allowed out of the nursery for 7 hours. That was really tough.
My stay at Southside was great. The nurses were so nice, and there was not alot of people there at all. Up until the day I went home, I was the only person in my wing.
So now I am a momy of two beautiful boys, and loving every moment of it (even at 3AM when they both decide to wake up and hang out with their mama )
Thanks for reading!
Here's a pic of both my boys!!
