Now that you have a child/children, if you could live in any town on Long Island, where would you live?
Pretend that price is not an issue. (Just for arguments sake)
What did you base this decision on???
Schools, proximity to work or family or is it just some where you always wanted to live??

I would love to live in Miller Place or Mount Siani.. love the area and the schools.
Would be closer to some family, but we arent that far as it is now. Just somewhere I've always liked.
Oh and Ridge too.. in my old neighborhood

Great Neck, Manhasset - for schools and DH's commute, and because DH grew up in the area.
Jericho - for schools.
Garden City, RVC - because keeping up with the Joneses isn't quite as mandatory in these towns....and I love a downtown!!
Malverne - not for the schools but because I love the town (grew up there) and that everything is within walking distance. Such a small-town feel.

Miller Place. I grew up there, my parents sold their house when I was 24 and I wish we could have bought it

I love the town that I grew up in...St. James....I wish we could afford to live there.
I also really like Wantagh/Seaford/Massapequa area, but I'm not sure about the schools there. Living there would make our commute so much easier since my ILs live there and they watch Kaydyn during the week.

I love where I live right now, so I would like to stay in East Islip but with a much bigger house and a lot more land.
Or my other favorite town is Sayville.

I'm not sure if I'd care whether my imaginary life sounds pretentious but I think we'd live in Muttontown. Can I name the location of our second and third homes also? Manhattan and Fire Island.
Oh, I forgot to give my reasons.....nice real estate, good amenities, good schools on LI, good educational and cultural opportunities in the city, nice lifestyle on FI and it's great to leave cars behind.

I would not move from Sayville we love it here. I would however move to a bigger house with more land (even though I think we have enough now). There is one I am right now...if only I didn't already have a house.

Re: Now that you have a child/children, if you could live in any town on Long Island, where would you live?
I live in Sayville and I would not move.. honestly I probably would not even change the house that I have.
I love this town because it is a true community and it is extremely family oriented.
The schools are small enough that I don't feel that my child is just a number. I like that the teachers and administrators actually seem like partners to me rather than educator v. annoying parent. I love that my sons are known by their first names and personalities by the principal and a variety of teachers in their school.. not just their OWN teachers - but other grades, volunteers, aides, special unit teachers, etc..
I love that the Chamber of Commerce is so involved in creating festivals and family event (big and small) that enable the people in the town to get out and explore their community and get to know the folks who share it with them.
I love our little main street and I love that the proprietors can often recognize me or my boys.
I love that the town has clean, well kept playgrounds and great private town beaches to take advantage of. I love Family Friday events in the summer - aimed at getting the families out and involved together with concerts, plays and generally just fun stuff. I love the things that they do for adults too - Tai Chi and free yoga early in the morning on weekends so you might slip out before starting your day and prep with a little stress relief.
I guess it's just the pride of the people who live here and the respect that they seem to have for themselves, their home and their town that makes it such a warm and welcoming place.
A couple of months ago we were at the opening day for little league and the coach of the high school team was doing an address. He kept talking about who Sayville was at it's heart - as though the town itself were a living, breathing thing. And there was somethign about his words - not the what so much as the passion for the town and the community and the people and the lifestyle that just struck a chord and made me realize that I was living in this little dream world that I had always wanted. I choked up.. and when he had all the kids yell "Play Ball" I lost it for some reason. I thought I was nuts - but my best friend was crying too. And then we noticed a few other women were dabbing their eyes. It was just that you got this glimpse through his words and the sight of hundreds of kids and their proud parents of just how special it is to be a part of it all.
Unless the landscape of the town changes dramatically, I have found my home and I plan to stay here for the remainder of my life. Or until we move off Long Island altogether.
ETA: Errr... sorry so long.. I guess you can see I kind of like living here.
And no.. I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce!

Northport area.
My first thought was Lloyd Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor but I like the downtown feel of Northport and the mix of economy. I feel like if I lived in a more high income area, my kids would have a false impression of money.

Cold Spring Harbor! Great school district, close to Huntington and NYC and I love the older homes and their styles. I love the look of the homes in old harbor towns.
Second would be Centerport.
I will say, I'm in a great area now with great schools and a great community.

In an ideal situation: out East, in a town that has more of a small-town vibe, very community-oriented, more land, etc. But WITHOUT the summer & fall traffic
