Now we can't eat tomatoes? Grr!
I am sure you ladies have heard the reports....
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Saturday warned U.S. consumers that the salmonella outbreak was linked to the consumption of certain raw red plum, red Roma, and red round tomatoes, and products containing these tomatoes.
The FDA has said that it is safe to eat cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, or tomatoes grown at home."
One of the joys of Summer.... fresh tomatoes! I am so p-ed off!

I am so annoyed about this.. this has been one of my biggest craving since the beginning.. I take the tomatoes and put ketchup all over it... God WHY

I just bought the most BEAUTIFUL plum tomatoes to mix in my arugula salad for dinner tonight. Daaaaamn.

I have no idea, honestly. The reports are unbelievably vague! I just know salmonella is an issue.

I suspect we'll be fine eating whatever tomatoes once the LI farmstand tomatoes come-out. they taste better anyway  obviously, this is like that E.coli/lettuce problem a few years ago, when one mega farm had pigs unknowingly wander onto their farm and poop everywhere prior to harvest.
It's likely restricted to one farm or farming region, but the produce is distributed everywhere.
I guess in the interim I will eat vine tomatoes. I refuse to give them up!

I hate when things like this happen it really makes my food phobias worse. I have been buying my tomatoes on the vine though and they are from canada so i feel safe!

I backed off eating tomatoes since heartburn set in.
But, thankfully my dad has planted his tomatoes for the season so in a month or so we should have fresh garden tomatoes

Girls, I'm not pregnant, so forgive me for hijacking your post, but I just wanted to tell you that I got sick from tomatoes on Sunday. I am just putting two and two together now because I didn't know about the tomato scare until today (I've been living under a rock getting my report cards done!)....Sunday at about noon I made myself a big salad, chock full o' cherry tomatoes.... by 3 o'clock I was sick to my stomach and had a 101 fever. I had a bellyache for the next day and feel fine today, but I wonder if that's what caused it. I'm going to call my Dr in the morning... I know the news said cherry tomatoes were OK, but I just wanted to pass along my experience...hope everyone's OK! :)

Mmmm..... NOTHING in the world is like garden fresh tomatoes! I cannot wait for my dad's to be ripe, too.
My dream meal in August, after I've delivered: my dad's tomatoes, slices of fresh mozzarella, basil from the garden, and a little dizzle of extra-virgin olive oil.
