NPR: Anyone been to Fortunoff to check out the liquidation sale?
Is it like Circuit City where they jacked up the prices and then discounted, or is it worth it to go???

Re: NPR: Anyone been to Fortunoff to check out the liquidation sale?
I was there yesterday b/c I had a GC I wanted to use. It was very crowded and the sales IMO weren't good at all. It was 10% off most things and 20% a few things (bedding I believe). You could basically go to BBB get most of the same things for 20% off. I heard a lot of people complaining. One older man was saying "so that's only $8 off, that's nothing", one man was fighting with a saleswoman about a mattress pad saying that they jacked up the price to discount it. Another woman was complaining about all the 10% of items because there were signs all over saying 10-50% off and NOTHING was 50% off. I bought pillows just b/c I wanted to use up the GC (has to be done by tomorrow).
I'm ASSUMING maybe after tomorrow (deadline for GCs) they may lower the prices but not sure. It does say everything must go so you would figure at some point they will lower them. Even at 10-20% though people were buying things like CRAZY!

thats what I was afraid of, the thing is its outside liquidation companies doing the sales, so the normally jack up the prices and then discount the jacked up prices...
and yes, I believe the backyard store is going out of biz too

they're not discounting things that much yet. its 10 or 20 % off most. I think the gc's were good till friday or sat. so soon once they dont take gc's anymore hopefully they will go even lower, but IMO it wasn't a bargain at all.

When I was there on Tuesday I would say the only thing I saw 50% off was the mattresses. Otherwise it was 10% for many things, some jewelry was 15, 20, and 30% off.

I was there because I had a credit for gifts that I received for my DS and it was only 15% off of the baby stuff. Not worth it. I basically got stuff just to use up the credit.

Re: NPR: Anyone been to Fortunoff to check out the liquidation sale?
I was there yesterday as well because I had a GC to use up. I was walking and walking around the store because there was nothing really on sale and there was not too many things left that I wanted. I ended up getting towels. I have had my eye on this one comforter set for awhile and it was cheaper a few months ago than it was yesterday. I was actually sad walking around the store. I really loved that store.

Yes but I wouldn't bother going. We were there (the backyard store) the week they announced they were closing. Made an order. Selected a delivery date. And paid in full. 2 days later they called us and said they are unable to fill the order And we wound up having to wait over a week to get our money back.
I was going to head to Fortunoff today to see what was out. But my dad said not to bother. He said the prices wouldn't be that good. And once a liquidation company takes over (which has happened already) they throw merchandise in the store that doesn't really belong.
He also said if I did go to buy everything on a credit card since warranties would be null and void. Should something happen to anything bought at least there'd be a leg to stand on if a credit card was used.

Wow...I can't believe Fortunoff is going out of business. I haven't lived on LI in many years and that place was always the go-to for my family for jewlery and high end gifts. Insane!
