npr: Anyone have the Nikon Coolpix p80 or p90?? And a wwyd question for any photogs!!..
Ok, so im alil confused as im not a camera person at all, but really would like to have a great camera for the kids..
My FIL bought us a p80 for xmas, we asked him for the D3000 and the places he went to were sold out, and basically told him, that for a begginner, this was a better camera, had a better zoom, more megapixels and unless i planned on going crazy with lenses (which i dont) the d3000 is pretty much a waist..im thinkin he told my FIL this, because he had none left..but anyway..He sold him the P80, and not the P90 (the newer model of the Coolpix) because in his words "I have both here, with only a ten dollar difference, but to be honest, you cant change the lense or do anything with the p90, and the P80 was just a much better camera" I kind of think he was just trying to get rid of it..and i also have found the d3000 kit in that store, for pretty much the same price as both coolpix's..
So, my first question, is it true about not being able to make any lense changes to the P90? For the extra ten bux, wouldnt i WANT the newer model? And... If i could have an SLR for the same price, is it stupid for me to go from the top of the line digital to the bottom step of an SLR????
thanks so much!!

I would definitely go with the SLR. You might not be interested in lens changes now but its always an option down the road. If they were the same price, I would go with whatever has the most options.

We were tossing this up too. I was thinking the P90 & then a photographer friend said for the $100 or so more to definitely go for the SLR.

I just got the P90. I love it, but yeah you can't change the lens...its a better version of point and shoot camera.

Ok, but heres the thing..most of my friends that have an SLR only have them cause theyre "good" to have..NONE of them know how to REALLY use it..So, i feel like i could just get the BEST of the BEST digital, and actually know how to use the thing lol Whats the difference in them? Stupid question maybe, but im serious.. The P80 and P90 both have continuos mode, so i can shoot shoot shoot fast..im thinking i cant edit the pic though from the camera, which i wouldnt know how to do anyway lol..is that the main difference? The d3000 doesnt have as many megapixels and as good a lens as the coolpix...i guess what im saying is, i dont wanna buy a bag JUST BECAUSE it says Fendi on it..i wanna really need it, kwim??
eta: for those of you saying i SHOULD get the SLR, can you be more detailed for me? Im wondering WHY, and what the difference is between the two..i really have NO idea..and in my mentality, id rather have the best of one option, then the lowest of another..kwim?

SLR is the best!! Go for it!!
I really don't know what I'm doing half the time with my SLR but my pics still come out beautiful. It's something that you can learn and get into one day. In the meantime...stick to auto and start snapping away.
I also figured with the amount of cameras I've purchased in the past, I could have had an SLR a long time ago. When taking pics of the kids, you're going to want a great camera to capture everything.

the amt of megapixels doesn't really matter unless there is a huge differnce in megapixels and u plan on blowing up pictures huge...DSLR's once you get the hang of it off Auto the quality of pictures is 10 times better than any regular digital...I'm not familiar with the coolpix, but honestly, I started off with the kit lens for my SLR and now have two others and love it...
