NPR: Dr Klein, Dr Nimaroff, and Empire NYS/United Healthcare insurance
Does anyone who sees Dr. Klein or Dr. Nimaroff have Empire New York State Government Health insurance (or United Healthcare)?
When I saw them over the summer (in their "transition" office), i was told they accept my insurance, but now I am being billed several hundred dollars!!!! I spoke to the billing department and they said I need to call my insurace company. I will do this, but dealing with insurance companies is enough to drive anyone mad!
I just wonder if anyone who sees these doctors has the same insurance as I do.
TIA

Why don't you try looking on the Empire Plan's website and search by provider and see if these doctor's are there?

Did they say that they no longer take your insurance or simply that the insurance is declining the claims? It should have been very clear when you went to see them that they accepted your insurance. Which is why I'm wondering if maybe they aren't putting in the billing correctly and it is getting rejected. I would call your insurance company and not just look online - I know the online info is not always up to date and the insurance company itself should be able to tell you why you are getting billed. As a patient I can't believe they would stop taking an insurance and not tell a patient. I know they USED to be good (when it was the old office) about letting people know if they didn't take your insurance - b.c a friend wanted to use them and they didn't take her insurance and they discouraged her from going there b.c they couldn't "give her an idea" of what they would charge.

This was the first time I went to see him. They were in their "transitional" office (the one they were at for a little while before they moved to their new one) and I was definitely told that they take my insurance. I asked, when I called to make the appointment, if they accepted my insurance and they said yes. I gave them my card to copy when I had the appointment. I would definitely not have seen him he did not take my insurance.
I called my insurance company today and apparently he was NOT under my insurance during the summer, although he is now.
I was given incorrect information. I will be writing a letter to dispute the charges. I really hope that it works out. I will pay the copayment, but I should not be responsible for anything else, and I will fight this as long as I can. I hate this sh!t b/c I always feel like people are out to skrew you.
