NPR: Has anyone sold gold recently ?

My late grandfather gave me a gold coin a long time ago. My mother reminded me of it last night and said with the gold prices being so high, I might want to look into selling it. I had NO idea where it was- it was one of those things that was always floating around and I'd be like" oh thats where it is" but I didn't really know where it was , if that makes sense.
So about 10 minutes ago, I was looking for a picture and I found a box o' photos i hadn't looked at for a while. Wouldn't you freaking know that the gold coin was in there?!?!

how do I go about selling it? I looked it up on ebay and have an idea of how in demand it is, but I'm not selling it on ebay. Where do I take it?
And is it wrong not to tell DH ? I feel like its a gift from my late grandparents, they would want me to do something nice for myself or Madeline, not pay the cable bill, kwim?
ETA: its worth about $250- and we have $ alotted for bills. Its not like we're broke, he's just a tightwad when it comes to money

I sold some old jewelry a few weeks ago. I can give you the name and # of a place - you have to be referred and make an appointment. They are the ones who buy the gold from the jewelers who buy it from the public, so you are cutting out the middle man and making more $$.

There is also a place in Hauppauge that buys old/rare coins & gold. I've never used them, but they may be worth checking out.

I have about 6 of those coins...I did sell gold recently but not the coins. I was really tempted to...
