NT scan today and mixed results
I'm 11w5d and I had my NT scan this morning. They were unable to get the baby to turn over. After two technicians finally a dr came in and was able to get a side shot of the spinal cord, and he thought it measured a little large. Other than that the baby was moving all over and had a good heartbeat 167bpm. Because he couldn't get the baby to turn either I have to go back. I'm only 26 and have no family history of down syndrome, but I'm really scared now.
Has anyone else had this happen, or even had to go back a second time because the baby wouldn't turn over?

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
Not at a 12 week sono, but I've had to go back for additional measurements at later sonos.
Do not worry. A lot can be misinterpreted if the baby is facing the wrong way.

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
It didn't happen at my 12 week NT, but I had to go at 18 weeks for spotting and the baby would not move basically, she was just laying on her side, and I had to wait for a good 45 min. and she still wouldn't budge. Then at my 20 week sono she was ALL over the place lol.
I wouldn't worry, they can't get good measurements when the baby isn't cooperating

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
this happened to a girl i know. they said the same thing and it ended up not being anything. its not 100 percent accurate they did a blood test right? at mine they couldnt even see the babys neck bc of the positioning but they did a blood test and compared to my first blood test which is almost the same accuracy as seeing it if not more. (thats what they told me at least) try not to worry and take it from me....dont google

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
Both of my children did not cooperate at the NT. I had to do the test twice both times. Both times they were poking me with the wand, making me stand up, going to the bathroom, etc.

If they can't get good measurements they will make you come back a second time. I wouldn't worry, it's more of a precautionary measure. Since they had a hard time getting the measurements they may be doubting the accuracy of them which is why they want you to come back when hopefully the baby is in a better position to get better measurements.

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
My understanding of it was that the measurements go hand in hand with the bloodwork and the measurements alone aren't enough to determine anything.

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
I'm sure everything is okay. Don't panic just yet
I'm going for my results today, so I know why you're nervous. But the baby wouldn't cooperate, I don't think they really saw anything.
I also agree with the above poster- the sono and bloodwork go together.

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
I had to go back a 2nd time because my LO was little small at 11w0d to do a proper NT scan. I went back the following week andthey did the measurements then and bloodwork...both go hand-in-hand. Try not to worry

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
I wouldn't worry-I was fortunate enough to have an early appointment so I was able to go back out and have lunch and try again the same day-if not, I would have to come back too. It doesn't mean there is a problem-they are so small at that point, so they can move and flip around like crazy and it could be hard to get all of the measurements in one try. Good luck!

Re: NT scan today and mixed results
I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. They were probably unable to get correct measurements because of the way your baby was positioned. Also, keep in mind that the NT scan is not diagnostic - it is only intended to identify a channce of any chomosomal abnormalities.
Sending you lots of &
