NT sono results with some issues. Long with questions about Materniti21
Yesterday I had my NT scan. Let me preface by saying that with every sono I had for my DS #1 something came back "wrong" so in some ways I was expecting something to go bad. Sometimes I really question even having these things done.
I had to reschedule my NT from last week to this week due to the flu. Originally I was supposed to have this sono at my dr. office but b/c I had to reschedule they had me go to a perinatal office affiliated with Winthrop. The babies are 13 weeks which is towards the end of the NT window though the sono techs tell me that they take the babies size into account. Anyway both babies refused to cooperate and were not in good positions to measure. The sono tech took the best measurements she could and then went to find the dr. to review the numbers. When she came in she explained that the neck thickness numbers were a little out of the "normal range". She said the range went up to 2.5 cm and the babies had measurements of 2.6 and 2.8. She got the same measurements as the tech.
Everything else seemed ok, she saw a nasal bone, which is a good indicator of a "typical baby". Of course these drs. have to legally explain all possibilities but now of course I'm a little nervous. My numbers are just out of the range but I'm wondering if I should have the Materniti21 test done since it is not invasive? I won't do anything invasive unless other markers come back. I'm going to see my OB for a regular appointment today and will talk about this "glitch". I wasn't given any odds of having a baby with chromosomal issues with these numbers. I scheduled a sono for 16 weeks which should also give me some information.
Does anyone know if there is a window that the Maternit121 test has to be done in? There was so much information thrown at me that I was a little overwhelmed. I'm going to call my insurance company today and see how much of the test is covered.
Also did anyone else have NT results that were just slightly off? If so, what did you decide to do?

Did they draw blood out? Most of the times if the bloodwork comes back fine it can rule out any negative result from the actual scan. I would wait on the blood results first and then think of the possibilities of the Maternity21.

They said the results from the blood test can't negate the fact that they saw issues during the scan

I see, well did they say you SHOULD do the Maternity21? or is it optional? If I was in your situation and the Maternity21 was goign to be a more detailed test I would do it

It won't negate anything but it will give you those ratios we have all come to know and love!! I would wait to see what those numbers come back at before making any decisions. After the NT scan I had a 1:13 for downs and had a CVS done to rule it out. The Maternit21 was never even offered (a little annoyed about that now) had the odds been better I probably would have not done anything.

I will be 31 weeks this week and going today for the Maternit21 test. I think I'm towards the end of the window so you have plenty of time to get the test done.

Everything is probably fine, but I don't see a reason not to do ma 21. It's a simple blood test and can give you peace of mind.

Re: NT sono results with some issues. Long with questions about Materniti21
I also did the M 21 test. If nothing else, it can offer peace of mind, before you decide to move further with invasive testing. As far as the insurance, the cost was $235 for the test, regardless of what insurance paid. They said that would be my max out of pocket. My insurance did cover it though, and sent me a check that I now have to pay to the testing center..it was about $2500.
I wish you the nest of luck...and would not hesitate to do this simple blood test.

Re: NT sono results with some issues. Long with questions about Materniti21
My NT scan said the neck thickness was 4.7. I had it done a second time at the Winthrop Perinatal place and got the same result. My baby is healthy as could be. I wouldn't worry!

Re: NT sono results with some issues. Long with questions about Materniti21
I don't know about the materniT21 test but I can tell you that with twins all bets are off. Everything was fine with my boys but so many times I was told well its twins so the bloodwork will prob be off and it's hard to get a good sono, etc.
I had monthly sonos just to check their progress and a few times one of the babies would not cooperate and I had to come back. Hang in there. GL!

Re: NT sono results with some issues. Long with questions about Materniti21
I have 7 month old triplets - identicals and a fraternal. One of my Id twins had a Nuchal fold of 4. After two weeks of torment, a repeat ultrasound showed an nt of 2. Today all three are perfect. M21 was not offered to me at the time but if there was a noninvasive way to reassure myself at the time I def would have done it.
