Nuchal Translucency Question
I am scheduled for this on Oct 30, and aware of what it is and what is done. I was told by my Dr that it may be possible to see the sex of the baby, depending what week it's done in. I will be 13 weeks.
My questions are:
1- Is it possible?
2-Have any of you who had this test done able to find out the sex with it?
Just curious, very anxious to see if it's or

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
I had the test, but the doctor wouldn't give any indication of the sex because he felt it was still to early to make a definitive statement.

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
it really is to early.. even if they guessed it could so easily be wrong. At 12 weeks a boys testicles havent even dropped so it would look like a girl at that point. I have heard that its possible for them to give an educated guess. North Shore where I had it done.. would say anything to me.. they told me they couldnt tell anything

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
Hey, mine is the next day!!
With my first, the tech told me she could tell with about 80% certainty (13 weeks), but we did not want to know anyway, so it didn't matter.

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
Ok this is getting scary now. I have an appoint for the Ultrascreen the SAME DAY! So far we are due the same day and had our first visit the same day. Its getting scary!!!!
Im curious too, since I will be 13 weeks also. Im not sure if I want to know, but if we can find out that day maybe we will.
Where is your test? Mine is 10am in Babylon... I have a feeling we are going to end up at the same place at this rate... We are living paralell lives!

I got chills when I read this...TOO FUNNY!!! My appointment is at 1:30 in Forest Hills.
It would be too ironic if we were at the same place, even funnier if we were at the same Dr!!

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
The tech who did mine couldn't tell, or if she had any idea she didn't tell me. We had a heck of a time getting the baby to move- I had my regular appt. about an hour before, and he/she was bopping around like mad! She would have gotten great shots of the neck then, but when we went in an hour later for the ultrascreen sono, he/she was and it took a while- the tech kept pressing on my stomach and asking me to cough.

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
It is possible, but like everyone else, I would question how much of it is an educated guess. I'm thinking the doc wanted to say something to me because he was like, "Here's the rump and the legs...so, you think you know what you're having?" And I didn't even clue in to what he was saying and I responded something like, "I have no idea at this point...we'll know later..." DH said he thought maybe he knew and I made it sound like I didn't want to know yet so he didn't say anything . I just though it was impossible to tell, so I meant we'd find out at the level 2.

I went today and she told me she couldn't tell. I don't want to know--and I told her that but I was just wondering. I had the same as somebody else -- the baby would not move out of the corner, she kept pressing on my stomach and making me cough--the baby was moving, just not out of that corner!

Re: Nuchal Translucency Question
They really can only take an educated guess at the Ultrascreen - it is usually way too early to tell for sure. At my ultrascreen, the doc made an educated guess of a boy, and she was right! The doctor was able to show us an appendage between the legs, but said it could also be the female genitalia. They also made it a point to say it was just a guess and I wouldn't know more until my Level II, which I had at 20 weeks - that's when they were able to determine the sex pretty much for sure.
