NY to CT reciprocity?
All of my siblings have moved to CT over the last few years, and dh and I have been talking about possibly moving up there in the next couple of years as well, before DD starts school. We'd move to fairfield county, nothing north of there. Anyway, does anyone know how teaching certifications work up there? If you have your NY certification, do they accept it, or would you need to re-certify?

NY to CT reciprocity?
I did it. We were considering a move to CT at the time. I had to take a few Praxis exams and was able to do them at one of the computer testing centers on LI. It was a decent amount of money (I want to say around $600 for the two or three tests I had to take), but after I passed them I was offered initial certification for a few years.

oh so you still need to take the exams :(
I found info on this website (http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/lib/sde/pdf/cert/obtaining1109aw.pdf) and wasn't sure if it was true
ASSESSMENT EXEMPTIONS
Educators may be exempt from Board-approved assessment requirements, including Praxis Core, Praxis II subject knowledge tests, Connecticut Foundations of Reading Test and/or ACTFL
OPI and WPT, if they meet the following criteria: Hold a valid certificate in another state that is equivalent to at least a Connecticut initial educator certificate AND have one of the following:
1. Three years of successful appropriate experience in the same state (in the same approved nonpublic school or public school
system, in the endorsement requested) in the past 10 years;
OR
2. A master’s degree in the academic subject area for which Connecticut certification is being requested. Please note that pedagogical degrees in the subject area, such as those for elementary education, special education or physical education, do not meet the requirements of the exemption.

NY to CT reciprocity?
I did my certification back in 2009, so they may have updated things. Doesn't hurt to call NYS or the CT DOE to ask. Best of luck!
