NYC Christmas Tree

Has anyone ever took their children to NYC to see the Christmas tree and go ice skating? If so does it get really crazy there (packed with people) and did the children have fun?

TIA

Re: NYC Christmas Tree

I never took my DD but we go every year & if you expect to ice skate expect to wait for hours at Rockefeller. The sessions are 1 1/2 hours. I only did it once in HS when my friend scammed & said, Oh isn't that your brother up there & we cut 3/4 of the line! Chat Icon

There is still alot to do though just to go in & see Rockefeller tree & you can go by Macys windows & goto St. patty's cathedral (all free stuff). DON'T go to any restaurant anywhere near the vicinity of Rockefeller Center though b/c all the prices are jacked up!!!

There are MAJOR crowds though except if it is super cold/rainy, etc

We took them one year but not ice skating. I loved looking at their astonished faces as they saw the tree but the crowds were pretty bad.

I never took Steven there, but I work down the block, so maybe I can helpChat Icon

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I shouldn't say that. But the ice skating lines are LOOOOONG. You could be waiting for over an hour.

As far as the tree, it is always crowded, but I love it and it's always beautiful and worth the crowds for me. I suggest you bring them to see the tree and Rock Center, look at the Saks windows, and if you want to go ice skating, go to the Central Park ice skating rinc. Chat Icon

Excellent suggestion. You can also go to the Holiday train show at the NY Botanical Gardens in the bronx. If you go skating in Central Park, go to the Central Park Zoo. I could look at the penguins & polar bears for hours.

Re: NYC Christmas Tree

Never again!! We went to see the big bush and it was MOBBED. I was pregnant at the time (last year). The streets were mobbed, the restauarants were mobbed, Macy's Santa Land was mobbed. Never ever again!

I would go during a weekday if you can.

DH and I went to see the tree on a weekend a couple years ago. The tree isn't so bad to see and get close to but the Rockefeller rink lines were long and the ice was crowded, we didn't even attempt. The stores were crazy too.

Re: NYC Christmas Tree

Thanks everybody for your imput. I think I will stick with going to Jones Beach light show for now. I think it might be to crowed in the city for me, I have a 2yr old and an 8mo old, I also have a son who is turning 10 and a step dtr 11 (they would probably be fine with the crowd, but I do not think the little ones will do well) maybe when their a little older I will try to atempt it.
Thanks again
