Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

Yea I saw that on the website...

However- I heard the weather guy on the radio (1010Wins) say that he will be surprised if they city schools stay open tomorrow because he doesn't think the sanitation people will be able to clear the roads.

So, we'll see...... I heard it's not nearly as bad (yet, at least) in LI... but it's TERRIBLE in the city!! I thought I was going to have ea heart attack on my commute home!!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon

I'd set your alarm for tomorrow. We are not getting another snow day.

I think pigs will fly before Bloomberg closes the schools for another day this year.

He is all about the money, not the safety!

Well then I wish he would have used some of that money to plow the streets.. namely the belt Chat Icon It was TERRIBLE during my commute earlier.. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! Chat Icon And, not plowed at all.......

I agree! It may be near impossible for them to have the streets clear tomorrow. Especially since it is a mix of slush and I am sure ice by tomorrow!

I honestly don't believe that he factors in the teachers commute in his decision making. Its as if he thinks all the teachers live close and can use "mass transit". Not for us LI'ers!

Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

I agree about the commute... it took me almost an hour to drive home & I live only 3 miles from my school Chat Icon I thought I might get in an accident, it was so bad.

I just saw on the news that Bloomberg made a statement that tomorrow will be "manageable" so schools will be open Chat Icon ... yeah manageable for him, what about everyone else?!

Ugh so true...

I spent over an hour on the road thinking gI was going to get into an accident, it was SO stressful.. and I was going like 5mph .....

The streets were COVERED in slush and my feet were soaking wet just from walking to my car from the school building Chat Icon On my drive, home, they were soaking wet and cold!!!!

We are so not factored into the equation!!

Wouldn't it be great if somehow we could get every single teacher in the city to call in sick on really bad day!

Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

I think he needs to take a little field trip to the outer boroughs...where the subways (and plows!) don't go! It's not even about LI teachers, either..we are daycare...expensive for us to become daycare, but overpaid daycare according to him...it's insane because we'll bust our chops to get there and the kids who can walk won't...it took me quite a while to WALK to my car...then to get out of Queens, I watched SCHOOL buses slip and slide around...scary! Unfortunately, it won't be a teacher injury that will show him the error of his ways..must be nice to have enough money for a private plow, if need be..haha

I totally agree...

He should have to take public transportation out to eastern queens tomorrow morning...see how manageable it is after a 3 hour commute.

He's a jerk!

Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

No way...he would never close ANOTHER day this year....I mean it would be unheard of!

But he definitely does not think of any of us teachers. I work in the Bronx and the commute home was horrible. There was so much snow already, I can ONLY imagine what tomorrow is going to look like Chat Icon

I will be stunned if we close- but I am annoyed that he already made a decision. I have been checking Waterspout4's map all day and the projected totals keep increasing. This is a huge noreaster and I just can't believe he would think about not closing- but he won't. But I think he'll look like a big jackwad because I bet we will be the ONLY school system open in the area.

Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

I don't think we'll be closed because he is an a$$ and doesn't care about the teachers. I teach in Manhattan and the slush on the sidewalks was insane at 230pm today. I can't imagine how awful it will be when it freezes and is buried under snow Chat Icon

The totals seem to keep increasing- they projected 13-16 inches for the city. Bloomturd did make a statement that schools would open unless "conditions were worse than predicted" though they are going to be pretty bad.

And did anyone hear about the trees that fell- one hit a man in Central Park and killed him Chat Icon and one hit a bus- a huge branch. It's really not safe. I would not send my child tomorrow. In fact, I don't know that I'll make it to the train and Metro North is going to cancel some trains anyway.

I really do hope he cancels!!!! But, wouldn't he have to make that judgment call on the sooner side? Last year when he did it at 6am everyone was so angry!!

Re: NYC DOE--Do we think we will close?

The thing I don't get is that this storm seems much worse than the one we had 2 weeks ago...... the snow is so heavy, the slush is so slippery & dangerous..... and he made the decision to close last time hours before even one snowflake fell..... and now this time, it's not even a consideration??? This is a 2 day storm with winds of 50 mph.... Seems odd & crazy to close last time but not this time.

NO
i was talking to my AP about this and he said we have so many days built in. I think we work 186 and only need to work 180.

plus with the city, i believe bussing would be an issue if we are open when we normally wouldnt
