NYC Health Insurance
DH will be doing Fellows this year. I know when I tuaght in the city, my health insurance was free--GHI plan (no deductions from your pay check). IS this still the case? ALso, does the UFT still cover Rx, dental and vision?
Also, although I teach in a district on LI, our contributions for our health insurance is pretty high... over $130 a paycheck.... can DH add me to his at no cost? Or is GHI not free when it's more than an individual plan? Also, can I be added to his Welfare Plan?
Also, city teachers... any particular plan you like... GHI was fine for me and probably still is... but I think we will be TTC in the next year or so, so didn't know if there was a better plan for that.
Sorry for the long post and TIA!

Re: NYC Health Insurance
Great question. You know, I'm not sure. All I know is that it's nominal, but the extra rider costs some money. I have GHIcbp (or whatever the initials are). If I were in your position, I'd get on DH's plan and save the extra money. NYC health benefits are not ones to shake a head at. They are one of the great things of being a NYC employee.

Re: NYC Health Insurance
I currently have GHU through my husband he works for the city as well and I am on his plan at no cost. you can get tthe addidional rider, but that is minimal. I beleive that HIP is also a no cost provider. If you got the web NYC BOE website they have a lot of this information.

Re: NYC Health Insurance
I have HIP and once they did away with the centers and private practice doctors joined, it improved a lot. My DH and DD are on my plan. There are never any co-pays and no payroll deduction. I was fortunate to find excellent doctors who take the plan.
Eye, dental and prescription are through the UFT Welfare Fund and he will have to do separate papers for that. (I forgot that I had to add DD to that after I added her to HIP, hence the reminder!)
There is also a lot of talk of a GHI and HIP merger.
