He hasn't gone through the process yet - he only just got his list #. So I don't think he has an investigator yet?

Maybe he can try to call DCAS? My DH is FDNY, so it maybe a little different, but I know he had an Investigator before he got his place in his class and it took quite a few months to get all of those ducks in a row.

He has to keep his paperwork--eventually if he is being accepted into a class--he will receive another letter stating his investigator information and the large packet of paperwork that he has to get filled out to continue his processing. If he was going to be entering the January class, he would have received something by now I would think. After they get their results, they receive further paperwork about psychological testing as well as drug testing...he never got any of this yet with info on his investigator??

Not yet. He only took the test on 9/28. He's just anxious.

Ahhh...gotcha.

Then I have to admit--he probably wasn't making it into the January 09 class if he never received anything but his test results...usually by now they begin the background checks and psychological testing.

So I'm not sure if he'll make it into the July 09 class if there were people slated for the Jan 09 class that aren't making it now. Unfortunately its gonna be a waiting game for you guys. Chat Icon

This was the only thing about FDNY mentioned in the press release:

Eliminating nighttime shifts at five engine companies in firehouses where ladder companies will remain fully staffed. Additionally, the firefighting training academy for probationary firefighters will be reduced from 23 weeks to 18 weeks.

All my DH has heard as of today is that there is a possibility that the promotion to firefighter will be postponed.

I suspected that he wouldn't be in the Jan class, but DH runs into cops all the time on the train (he works for the LIRR) who were convincing him he would be...

We really figured the July class would be when he'd be called, but now I'm wondering if that will be a combined large class (he heard that from a few cops) or if he'd have to wait for the NEXT class after that. UGH.

it's not bloombergs fault.

we have a deficit. you either pay more into it or you make cuts.

i don't see the citizens of NYC signing up to pay more taxes (there's that tax man again) soooooo....

cuts are the only alternative.

this is why taxes are important.

For the most part -- when it comes to stuff in the Academy -- most cops don't know about whats happening cause once they leave it, they only hear rumors thru the grapevine.

Hey-you never know, maybe they will put your DH in the July class. I think now that there is a pay raise, they will be setting higher standards again for cadets.....and perhaps those that took the test that weren't as desirable canidates will be weeded out, and people like your DH will move to the front of the line.

This is ridiculous. My brother is an officer and bc of lack of staff he works about 30 hours of overtime a week! I can not believe that they are going to cut a class when officers are needed in the city. Each year too many officers retire so who will replace them? This is going to affect our safety and the safety of the officers on the street as they will be working longer hours and will be tired on the job. Yeah Bloomy- great way to want to get re-elected for a third term. Chat Icon

This is true. DH says they are short on patrol officers and now without this upcoming class they are going to spread themselves pretty thin.

The good thing is I hope with the increase of salary they are no longer hiring people with criminal records and get better quality people.
