Re: NYC New Hire
I was hired at a job fair and assigned a specific region. I then had to go to a placement fair where I found the school I work for now. I had to go there for an interview and then was hired for that specific school once the principal signed the committment paper.

Re: NYC New Hire
Is there anyone that can help me with this? I just want to know if anyone got anything in writing when they were hired directly through a principal for a NYC school. Thanks.

Re: NYC New Hire
I had a committment letter stating my name for the region. I later got a committment letter from the principal of the school that I teach at. A committment letter is stating you have a job whether it is from the region or a school.

Re: NYC New Hire
I did not have commitment letter or anything. I was told I was hired and didn't sign anything. You will have to start filling out healthcare/retirement paperwork!

Re: NYC New Hire
No I was just given a committment letter from Court Street and then i was hired directly bythe principal. I dont think anyone gets an actual letter and contract that they sign like every other district does.
Welcome to the dysfunctional board of ecducation!
FYI: call your school and make sure your school sectretary has you down and all your info. she will act as your liasion and get all the paychecks etc. the UFT will handle all your healthcare and the Welfare Fun (dental, viision, Rx). The Board of Ed. must follow the contract (working hours, conditions, etc. set forth in the UFT's contract. Ask your union rep. for a copy.

Re: NYC New Hire
i didnt sign anything- and i didnt get anything either...
you can guess what step youll be on with salary differential, but until you put in all your paperwork to get placed on the appropriate step, you will get paid the lowest base salary. expect to not see a paycheck til November, it takes them forever just to put you in the system. then around january they updated my payroll info and placed me on the correct step. i got a huge back pay check, and they took out half in taxes. the first year definately is the worst!
best of luck!
